Kanno, Yoko Real Folk Blues Chords Guitar Tab

Song: The Real Folk Blues
Artist: Yoko Kanno
Category: Anime Theme Song (Cowboy Bebop)
*Transcribed by George Garcia
I decided to transcribe The Real Folk Blues for one reason only... no one else has! I spent a
while looking for the tabs everywhere and couldn't find a thing. It took me a while until I
finally sat down to transcribe it.
Well folks, it seems that this song is played with a capo on the 2nd fret. So unless you're
planning on playing it in the key of Em instead of F#m, I suggest you get a capo
(or just borrow one).
If you do not have access to a capo (or have no idea what a capo even is), do not dispair. I have
the song transcribed to be used without a capo, or just play it without the capo in Em
(which is the way it is played on episode #26, when Spike is going to Vicious' hideout).
If you play it in Em, however, you will not get the same sound as the end of the episodes.
Also, I'll transcribe it in English sometime. ^,^
If you would rather have these instead, or any other questions at all, simply e-mail me at:
Edgecrusherg77@AOL.com - Subject: Cowboy Bebop tabs
Then tell me what you want. ^_^
Here's the transcription in the key of F#m:
(Which is the way it is at the end of every episode)
All chords have the implied chord in (parenthesis). For example, when you play the Em chord
while the capo is on the 2nd fret, the implied chord is F#m. This gets kind of confusing, so try
your best. If you do not have a capo, you would play the chord inside the (parenthesis). O.o
If there's any questions on this FEEL FREE TO ASK! (email me)
Keep in mind I only put chords on the lyrics that are shown at the end of the episodes.
All extra lyrics do not have chords posted on them. OK on to the music... 3,2,1.. Let's Jam!

Oh and btw, yeah she is talking about being happy, but to her, death is the ultimate happiness (same with spike after julia dies)

This song is possibly one of the best songs I've ever heard. The first time of course was when I saw the final epsiode, the view titls sky ward as the song begins and actually started to cry when the first lines of it came on.

Lol I love all cowboy bebop songs and will tell ya what I think of it I think this song is about the time after julia dies, till the end of the show now this song is for the ending of cowboy bebop! keep that in mind now, blue, is a color of cool, laid back, and also the color of sorrow "are you feeling blue? " keep that in mind too "Never seen a bluer sky Yeah I can feel it reaching out and moving closer There's something 'bout blue" There never was a more perfect time, and I can feel the time getting closer... there's something bout blue, something bout what she/he is bout to do" Asked myself what it's all for You know the funny thing about it I couldn't answer No, I couldn't answer I've done this many times, Ask yourself why live? whats the point of it all, what is it all for, again this would imply that she (the singer) is depressed, sad, blue. But she is unable to come up with a anwser, and its "ironic" kinda funny, the poetic type... maybe if she could just figure it out.... but she can't anwser... Things have turned a deeper shade of blue and images that might be real may be illusion Keep flashing off and on Things have gotten more "blue" more sad, more free. (Julia dies, spike's old friends die, things basically get alot more complicated). "Images that might be real may be illusions, keep flashing off and on." Vicious's butterfly's could the what these images represent, or Spike's flashbacks, or Faye's flashbacks, Free... Wanna be free, Gonna be free and move among the stars You know they really aren't so far She (the singer) or spike wants to be free from it all, wants to be among the stars, in heaven, basically doesn't want to live anymore. when she says "you know they really aren't so far" when you are depressed, you start to weight being dead with being alive, and when your down enough, it seems that there wouldn't be much difference. "it wouldn't matter if i died"... so she's saying that death isn't so far from living. Feels so free... Gotta know free... Please... She's made up her mind to be free, to be free from all the stuff she has to deal with in life, all the pain, all the restrictions, all the lies... or in spike's case, living without Julia. Remember all the stuff he survives when julia is alive, being blown out of an apartment, etc, well thats because he wants to live, but when julia dies... he doesn't he just wants to be free from it all. I think that when julia was alive, he was "free" with her, and now that she's dead, he wants to be "free" with her still... Don't wake me from the dream It's really everything it seemed Shes fading (the singer) or spike... and things are becoming so much more "free", and so the singer/spike dont want you to try to save them, they want to die and be let go from the worries of life... this is why I believe spike didn't tell tank or faye to come with him. He didn't want to live through it. I'm so free... No black and white in the blue There are no extremes in the blue, in death you don't have to worry bout good or evil, right and wrong, you are freed from all of this... or better put, all are equal in death. Also, death/freedom doesn't care how good or bad, rich or poor you are, its the ultimate equalizer Everything is clearer now Life is just a dream, you know that's never ending I'm ascending Now she/spike understands it all, now that she(the singer) / spike are bout to die, they "get it". Life is just what you make of it you know, and it really doesn't matter, this is kinda the whole theme of the laid-back amine of Cowboy bebop... kinda like the song "dont matter none". I'm Ascending.... I'm being freed, birds "ascend" I'm being let go of my chains, in spike's case, his chains of life... and so he dies... All in all, I love this song, its real in a lot of ways and unreal too, just depends on your mood, I wish I could understand the chant at the beginning of the song, but I'm sure its a funeral chant or something...

Anybody know what the first few lines of the song are? It sounds like they're saying "Where's your messiah?", but I can't figure out the rest.

Great song, and yeah, perfect for the ending of Bebop. I get a lump in my throat when I watch the final sequence...but it's perfect KawaiiAyu, he's definitely dead. That's the intention of the ending, which we know at the end of the credits when Spike's 'warrior star' blinks out in the middle of the screen. Also, I've heard that in interviews the show's creators talked about the possibility of doing a prequel show, but never one set after (why? cos their main character's dead). Besides, if he isn't dead, the ending isn't half as good, and I say that as one of Spike's (if not no. 1) top ten fans...it would be a letdown if he wasn't dead

I think of this song in a 1st-Person perspective with the possibility of being in a subconscious state ("Don't wake me from the dream. It's really everything it seemed), about freedom or balance ("I'm so free. No black and white in the blue"). It's just the right song with the right lyrics for the final eps. of Cowboy Bebop, with Spike (ironically) meeting his fate and all... It's one of those songs that limns a psychological thought to people when they listen to it. ^^

i think this song is about happiness, and i feel that "blue" is the equivalent to the meaning of "happiness". Maybe she was just dumfounded by a blue sky one day and it just made her happy. "never seen a bluer sky" meaning she's never been happier. "Yeah I can feel it reaching out" she feels her happiness reaching out to her and feels it overcome her. "and moving closer" her happiness is increasing. "There's something 'bout blue" she is talking about how a blue sky can do this to her. make her so happy. i think she is just reffering back to the blue sky that made her feel like this. "ask myself what its all for" what life is all for. "I couldnt answer" like, 'i couldnt come up with a reason.' "things have turned a deeper shade of blue" She has gotten happier or things have gotten better. "and images that might be real may be illusion" events in her life seem so good that they are almost like a dream, or illusion. "Keep flashing off and on" and those events keep happening before her eyes. "Free..." her happiness and a blue sky are like freedom from the sadness she had before. we all know what it feels like to be free. im sure you've all gotten it once, even if it was for like, getting out of school early or something. and it feels good. very good. "and move among the stars" like be among and accomplish her goals, dreams, and desires in her life that she has been striving for. "You know they really aren't so far" she is saying that dreams can come true and your goal actually can be reached. "Don't wake me from the dream" dont take her away from the things and events that make her happy in her new, better life. "It's really everything it seemed" basically she is saying that life IS what it was all cracked up to be. "No black and white in the blue" meaning that there is no discrimination in happiness. this is not only discussing discrimination as in people's ethnicity, but by there ways, choices, lifestyles, etc. "Everything is clearer now" just that. life is much clearer to her now. "Life is just a dream, you know" saying that her life is like one big dream or illusion, like its really just so incredibly great, that its like a dream, and she seems to refer to a dream as a very happy thing. "that's never ending" it is like one huge dream, and she seems to tie dreams to happiness with a very tight knot. "I'm ascending" ascending means basically 'to go up', and she is saying that her life in general, is rising and getting much much better. I was lying in my sleeping bag at night at a friends house when this song just popped into my head. i was thinking deeply about the lyrics (while i aws laying there, i was looking out a window, seeing dark rainclouds as it was pouring, as a matter of fact) and i got this explanation as a result.

This is a great song. He's pretty tired of how life's treating him. Thats all I got out of it. Beautiful. I especially love the (synthesizer?) after the chorus.

Unique song, and quite deep for that of an OST. It's obviously about wanting freedom, contemplating all the issues of life and eventually tiring of it. Everything here is complicated, but the sky is just blue.. blank, and endless. Nothing else. There is peace in that. Soon, they realize that the oddity of the sky and its endlessness may apply to life, and it's own seemingly endless cycle. But they still prefer the sky, and it's simplicity. In the end, they go to it and let go of the world we know now, whether subconsciously or physically.

this song seems so sad to me, like it's about death and suicide. here's my explanation: "Asked myself what it's all for You know the funny thing about it I couldn't answer No, I couldn't answer" when you're depressed and suicidal, things don't have meaning anymore "Things have turned a deeper shade of blue and images that might be real may be illusion Keep flashing off and on" what's real? what's illusion? "Free... Wanna be free, Gonna be free and move among the stars You know they really aren't so far Feels so free... Gotta know free..." i have to be free from this life. "Please... Don't wake me from the dream It's really everything it seemed" somehow, this seems to me like a plea not to bring her back "Everything is clearer now Life is just a dream, you know that's never ending I'm ascending" i'm on my way to heaven, i'm ascending, and all the illusions of the dream of life have been stripped away. that's what i get, anyway

well I love this song too, and yes it was perfect. But I think the whole meaning thing behind it is that Spike basically wants to die so that he can be free. Free from Vicious, the syndicate, and even free from living in a world without Julia. And that after the fight while he's laying there dying he sees it all clearly. Or at least that's what I think. I think that by then he would have realized that the whole thing between him, Vicious, and Julia was just stupid and now they were all gonna die from it. He was wondering what it was all for. And of coarse he said himself before, to Faye, that he was just living a dream. So I guess that's my take on it and btw, I believe Spike is still alive ^_^. I mean he's been through worse, being blown out of a church window and stuff. He'd defently live through Vicious. Also, Yoko Kanno arranged, wrote, and composed the song, but did not sing it. Mai Yamane did.
