D.J Wanna Be |
#3 by D.J Mortensen at Jan 9, 1988 at 7:50 PM EST |
| A beautiful song.... It saddens me however that this song sounds spiritual but is really a Materialistic View of the Universe. A worldview that says that the universe was formed in a big bang and the dust in the cosmic wind clumped together into space rocks then stars planets and galaxies. And then the dust organized itself into LIFE {Evolution}. Compare this to the Bob Dylan song ITS NOT OVER AFTER YOU DIE. And ask the question... Is there a Spiritual Nature to the Universe? Are we Spiritual Beings? Or are we just Matter in Motion as Communists, materialists, and atheists of many stripes believe? ARE WE Just Dust in the Wind? I don't think so.... | |

| I realize that this song probably wasn't written to have a spiritual meaning, but i really think there is one. From a christian perspective, it points out that what we may have on this earth, will not get us anywhere in the end. This life here is short and moving quickly -- "I close my eyes, only for a moment and the moment's gone" -- and that after it -- "All your money, wont another minute buy". Store up your treasures in heaven baby. | |

Murders in the Average |

| This song was used in my school's field show two years ago. Whenever I listen to it it brings back memories of the tournaments, the bus rides, the crowds, the friends... even though I wasn't there that year it still touches me. Everytime I listen to it I just have to sing a long. I love Kansas. :::tear::: :) | |

| Gunfyter et al: read these and think about it. I do hope you aren't among those who are so closed-minded they'd refuse to look at anything with "atheism" in the link... http://www.ebonmusings.org/atheism/stardust.html http://www.ebonmusings.org/atheism/lifeisfleeting.html As for what this song means to me, not a whole lot...except it's something else to get stuck in my head and find both inspiring and depressing as I'm watching the sunset. I was referred to it by a friend who had been introduced to it by another friend of hers. The man in question lost his best friend and latent lover years ago to cancer, and he sent her this in response to her sending him a couple songs that reminded her of his story... | |

| I think the song is just pointing out that "hey, the things we think are sooo important just aren't so important in the end". I don't think that it precludes a spiritual perspective gunfyter | |

| We are rather insignificant in the grand scheme of the universe. Our lives are short and fragile. We are as dust that can be swirled off the earth. | |

| This song means a lot to me cause the person I love told me about it. It really makes me worry cause as the song says: dust in the wind, may be of our relationship, and this is the last thing I would want in my life. | |
