I think it's a lover who has come back to the person they deserted. "With the sun in your eyes, and on your own." She's seen the light and has returned. Bedshaped may refer to the fact that this lover may have been sleeping around hence the reason for the split?

well my friend had a different interp and his was good too here: two ppl are childhood friends one is of course different and things are ok when they are children but as they get older the differences become more established "normal" one laughs at the other because of his differences "normal" one thinks that being friends with jim will drag him down he thinks the different one is stupid but the different one knows that the normal one will be back because different guy is normal's only true friend "but what do i know" ^ refers to tim saying that jim not knowning anything that might be a better one if u guys are looking for a different kind of interp... i like it... i like mine too but this one sounds better than mine

ok...when tom{singer}was@skool he bullied a hell of alot{he went2an all boys skool}&it was1of those skools where u had2b good@sport{which he wasn't}or else evry1h8ed u*picked on u and cos tom was a singer it made him stand out even more...so anyway...thats wat the sing is about. he was an outcast@skool{like the little guy in the vid}and so when tom signs in white light, thats the band..the bad was his white light...his escape{again like in the vid...there's a white light and the little guy finds the band and then he's happy cos everythings alright}Im not sure thou wat the word bedshaped means but thats wat the songs based on...bout the hole horrible memories from his skool years.

"bedshaped is about feeling that you've been 'left behind' by an old friend or lover. and about hoping that you'll be reunited one day so that you can live out the end of your lives together the way you started them. i guess there's some anger at a friend who wants to move on in search of new, exciting, more sophisticated things, leaving behind the simple things you used to share....and a hope that they'll eventually want to get away from the bright lights and come back home. it's a sad and angry song, but also full of hope. i hope that makes sense. I think i'm right in saying that in hospital when someone is ill or infirm and has to spend a lot of time in bed they can become 'bedshaped'. it sounds a bit depressing...well i guess it is a bit depressing in reality, but in the context of the song i wanted to suggest old age and frailty, along the lines that i mentioned before about two old friends coming back together in the twilight of their lives. it's great that you guys like bedshaped...it's a song that means a lot to us." - Tim - messageboard This is from keane's faq page, tim answered this question on a message board. this is the best keane song though
