My favourite Keane song, it's so georgeous. The lyrics are amazing, it's just unbelieveable. Also, it's hard to explain, but the lyrics really go with the music, the chorus, the sun in your eyes, the way he says it, I can picture it completely and it's just amazing. Fantastic imagery for the lyrics and music. It's a perfect song.

i think it's a combination of the ideas mentioned so far "Many's the time I ran with you down The rainy roads of our old town Many the lives we lived in each day And buried altogether" the couple had a long happy relationship but she left him (or vice versa) "Don't laugh at me Don't look away You'll follow me back" and he's begged and pleaded for her to come back but she thinks it's silly how he's reacted "With the sun in your eyes And on your own Bedshaped And legs of stone You'll knock on my door And up we'll go In white light I don't think so" now he's left dreaming about her coming back to him on her own. 'bedshaped' indicating that it's a dream (as in shaped by the bed, not shaped like a bed). the 'legs of stone' meaning that she'll never leave again. "But what do I know What do I know? I know" in his head he doubts she'll come back but he still believes she will in his heart

I think bedshapped is reffering to when you become an old person, and sleep is all there is really. They have become bedridden, and have no friends, but could have each other. i think!

I'm suprised no-one thought the same as me. Personally I think that bedshaped has a much more obvious meaning - the whole song is a dream "You'll knock on my door And up we'll go In white light" It's all perfect, everything he's ever wanted but it will never happen "I don't think so". It is the best song to have last on the album because it shows so well his 'hopes and fears', because there is hope at the end "What do I know? I know."

This song has made me cry more than once, it's so beautiful. I'm totally biased as to the meanings of all the songs on the album though, because I can relate so many of them to my relationship with my ex-boyfriend. "You'll knock on my door/And up we'll go/In white light/I don't think so" reminds me of the way when you're totally in love with somebody, you can spend all of your time believing that the two of you are perfect together, and that they will come and save you and be everything that you want them to be, but deep down inside you know you're just fooling yourself. This whole song to me is about a relationship that used to be really good, then one person moved on while the other is still in love and left behind. *sniffle* so sad.

what is the meaning of the word "bedshaped" in this song. otherwise, brilliant, but the meaning there escapes me, and since it's the name of the song, i figure it's important. thanks.

This is total speculation and probably completely off, but maybe this song refers to a childhood friend who has since become bedridden. I dunno. One thing I am pretty sure of, this song is about an old friend. duh.
