| There's something odd about the way the singer addresses his lover as "simple thing," if in fact the song is addressed to his lover. Another interesting thing is the possible double meaning of "Is this the place we used to love?" This could mean either "Is this the place where we used to love each other (i.e. make love)?" or it could mean "Is this the place that we used to love?" | |

| i dont think the "somewhere" is a physical place. i think it's more metaphorical. | |

| This is the first Keane song I heard, and I knew that they were a bit different. I love all of the natural imagery - it builds such a vivid picture. The video goes perfectly as well (except for the random alien things O_o) I think that the speaker is in a relationship where he is completely in love with his partner, but not satisfied with the relationship. He's alone as someone mentioned, so obviously the other person isn't committed enough or just isn't around enough. He can feel them slipping away and this is his last plea to try and work things out and really talk because he doesn't know what else to do, but he would do anything to save the relationship. I can relate to it painfully well. | |

| The part when he says is this the place we used to love makes me think that he's reminising. That place he's talking about could be the place him and this other person had so many good times. | |

| You're probably all right about the meaning of this song, cause there are just many ways to interprete it. To me though, it's about a guy who kissed a lot of girls, but somehow none of them ever turned out to be his girlfriend. For a long time he didn't really care, he knew how to get them and just moved on te the next one. It made him 'feel complete', hence the first part of the song. But now, as the second chorus says, when he's there ready to kiss another girl, he just doesn;t see the point anymore if it's just gonna be a one-time-thing. (Is this the place that i've been dreaming of?) That makes sence to the 'oh simple thing, where have you gone? I'm getting old and i need something to rely on' part. He's ready for a girlfriend, but doesn't know how to get one (so tell me when you're gonna let me in, i'm getting tired and in need somewhere to begin). The 'you' person in theis song is love. He's asking love to 'talk about somewhere only we know', when will his time be? anyway, that's just how i listen to the song.. i'm pretty curious to know how it was meant | |

| i think hes been in love with this girl. i think, theyve been having a platonic relationship, or the girl just doesnt want to commit. so, this song is like, "heyyy, cmon lets go. lets move on to another level." cos hes 'getting old' and 'tired'. and now, he feels like hes losing this girl. 'this could be the end of everything' and 'simple thing where have you gone?' i guess, he wants everything back to normal and more. haha, this is my guess. =) | |
