| Hmmm...I think Jingy has an interesting take on this song that didn't occur to me. Anyhoo, I've always interpreted this song as being about falling in love and the hardships that come with it. I think, “If only I don’t bend and break” refers to him trying not to freak out or sabotage himself/the relationship, so he can fall in love with her, or “meet on the other side, meet in the light.” “Meet me in the morning when you wake up” is asking that she do the same (not sabotage) and allow herself to fall in love as well, “morning” symbolizing a new life begun together once they’re in love.. | |

| I found this on a website, something Tim said; "in bend and break that phrase is more about getting through a really dark state of mind and emerging into brighter, happier times. the old saying 'the darkest hour is just before the dawn' is very true and potent i think. people often say that with proper depression, things can seem unbearably awful as your thoughts run around each other in the dark of the night but when the sun rises you can get more perspective and see things in a more hopeful way." | |

| i think he's singing about somebody he loves. she's stuck in a rut, a routine where everything has lost meaning: "when you forget your name" "when all the faces look the same". he's trying to show her that she doesn't see him now but he loves her and can show her what life can be like together: "lovesick bitter hardened heart...aching waiting for life to start". he's trying to take her away and show her love: "meet you on the other side...meet you in the other light". as long as he doesn't bend and break of course. | |

| I found this fitted neatly when our child died at birth early one evening. She stayed with us during that night, and we hoped that the next morning all would be well. It wasn't, but if we can manage to survive what is to come, we'll met her on the other side...works for us :) | |

| "aching, waiting for night--waiting for life to start" its as if he's not satisfied with his actual life--to him, he's living only when he's sleeping. in your dreams, you can write your own path these lyrics make me think of the flaming lips song 'bad days'--"in your dreams ... have it your way" http://www.songmeanings.net/lyric.php?lid=62489 i can relate. sometimes i prefer i had the life i have when i dream than when i'm awake | |
