| i think in the first verse it is infact Why do you laugh When I know you hurt inside? it is a catchy song, likely to be a single, they are spoilt for choice single wise on this album! i can see this one being amazing on the festival scene! as for the song, the relationship is on the decline, the lovers have come to the point where they have to decide whether to carry on together, or to their own seperate ways! as a result, the lonely sole bit, could either mean that she has no feelings for him, and is taking him for a ride, just having fun and not reall caring! however it could be the spiteful thing someone would say if you just break up with someone and then u see them out with another bloke, acting as if you were never part of your life! i think! lol | |

| Wow, the references to lies within romance are completely lost on me. The way I see it: -The 'turning tide'/'lovers at a great divide' lines are examples of a big change in life. -'Why do you lie when I know that you hurt inside'— Obviously, life is not going well for someone, and they're lying to people The 'just another day/nothing in my way' in the chorus also appears to refer to this. -'A telltale sign/You don't know where to draw the line' reminds me of myself, actually. I lie to most people, but not ALL people. In private, when speaking to those who he/she is comfortable confessing to, the subject of the song clings to his/her problems because he/she doesn't know where he/she would be without them. It's his/her only means of self-definition, so in times when things are a little better, he/she doesn't admit that either. -'For a lonely soul you're having such a nice time' also suggests the same thing as above. Yes, the subject is lying and deceiving people and so on, but it's working. Nobody other than the narrator suspects anything. The subject is doing bad things to achieve ends, but they work. Which isn't good either. | |

| my interpretation: the couple has broken up "lovers at a great divide". she insists that she is not affected at all and is having a great time without him. ("just another day nothing in my way") but he knows that deep down inside, she's not fine...she's lonely...she's hurt...and she's confused. she goes on playing this game and pretending she's having fun but he knows what's really going on inside of her. ("Well for a lonely soul, you're having such a nice time") I'm sure we've all experienced this before (whether playing the role of the singer or lonely girl) | |

| This is by far the best song from the album. I have to agree with pyromusic and jennamouse. I feel that this song is about hiding your feelings from your partner. Something has and change hence the use of "A Turing Tide" which has cause a "great divide" with them being unable to share what they are feeling. They pretending that everything is ok but really it isn' they can tell. | |

| I see the sea theme ('turning tide') with the Keane songs, Atlantic, album is under the Iron Sea. Sounds like he's accusing his partner of lying to him and for just generally messing up in the relationship | |

| It probably is about a couple that has split and one wont admit it has hurt them, but I can see it as just two people who care about each other, seeing as a lot of people who just care experience a time where one is obviously going through a rough patch but wont admit it | |

| I think its maybe about being in a relationship with someone when you know something's getting them down, maybe something has happened, or you know that they're not really happy, but they pretend everything's ok. 'Just another day, nothing in my way' could mean that that person pretends that everything's normal and that they're coping fine with whatever it is that may have happened. Just my interpretation! But either way, I think it's one of the best songs on the new album, and the album itself is brilliant :) | |

| The song is about the relationship between Tim Rice-Oxley and Tom Chaplin (from their website and other fan sites) and not a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship, thought even knowing that it still sounds like it's about a relationship coming to an end ("Lovers at a great divide") | |

| 1) Yes I have noticed that the introduction sounds uncannily like that of Somewhere Only We Know! 2) Just a very spontaneous thought - could this be possibly a reply of some sort to Nirvana's "Something In The Way" or do you reckon that it's just name flukes? | |
