Toby Keith is nothing more than an opportunistic whore. He exploits our sentiment of nationalism for his own personal gain. Its not like the military is defending this country--simply carrying out the imperialistic ambitions of the lone world superpower. Any claims at jingoistic altruism are simply the attempt to veil the US's true motives. This is not an attack at anyone in the military--you are following the orders of your boss--and you have been so indoctrinated with propoganda that it is difficult to see the forest for the trees. No one faults you for carrying out your job--and it truly is the most heroic job in the world. Nonetheless, I believe that the world would be better off if the United States kept its nose out of everyone else's affairs--to the extend that we dictate what other countries do... Also, like all imperialistic empires, the USA will fall--its just a question of when and why

This songs shows that people should respect what a soldier does for his country, and stop putting them down, just support them and believe in them and let them fight for your freedom.

I'm a soldier deployed to Afghanistan. The first time I heard this song it was played at a ceremony for a friend of mine that was lost on October 27th and I cried more than I can ever remember criying in my life. Now everytime I hear it I tear up. It also has alot of meaning to me cause everything it says is exactly how I feel. I'll leave this post with this qoute I found, I just can't remember who said it. "We must never forget that freedom is never really free. It is the most costly thing in the world, and freedon is never paid in a lump sum. Installments come due in every generation. All any of us can do is offer the generations that follow a chance for freedom."

bad_obsession....I may not agree with you on everything you say, but thank you so much for realizing that it is not the troops that decide when we go to war. We only do what we are told. I don't believe that I serve because I have been fed a bunch of propaganda. Rather, I chose to serve because I felt I needed to pay my respects to my family members that served before me and all of the men and women that served before me. Believe me, the troops probably want to stay out of war more than anyone. But when our elected officials decide it is time for us to do our job, we must do it. Thank you for realizing this. There are too many people out there that refuse to understand this.....

This song just sends chills down my spine every time I hear it, even reading what people have posted on here just gives me the goosebumps..one question I have for any of you who may be veterans or over in Iraq right now...I have a friend who just returned from Iraq not too long ago, and he can't stand this song. I don't really think he wants to tell me why, so I've never asked. We went to WeFest (huge country music festival in Minnesota for those who don't know) and Toby Keith was there. He said that if he played this song he was going to walk out because he just can't listen to it. So to make a long story short..is there any Veterans or Soldiers that feel the same way about this song, does it portray something wrong??

I like this song as it is directed at all the American soldiers past and present that have served to ensure that we can enjoy the freedoms we have. Anyone who says differently, doesn't care for his/her freedom, and should pick up a rifle and stand on the wall.

This song as most the others i write about on here have a lot of meaning and shows the world we support what these men and woman are doing. This song is for all the marines, navy, army, and air force out there. God bless you all...thankyou for serving.
