C G C D C G
Da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da (repeat)
C G
Grew up in a small town
C D
And when the rain would fall down
C G C
I'd just stare out of my window
C G
Dreaming of what could be
C D
And if I end up happy
C G C
I would prey
C D
Trying hard to reach out
C G
But when I tried to speak out
C G C
Felt like no one could hear me
C G
I wanted to belong here
C D
But something felt so wrong here
C G C
So I'd prey
C G D
I could breakaway
C G
I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly
C D
I'll do what it takes till I touch the sky
C G
I'll take a risk take a chance make a change
C D
And breakaway
C G
Out of the darkness and into the sun
C D
But I won't forget all the ones that I love
C G C D
I'll take a risk take a chance make a change and breakaway
C G C D C G
Da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da
C G
Wanna feel the warm breeze
C D
Sleep under a palm tree
C G
Feel the rush of the ocean
C D
Get on board a fast train
C G
Travel on a jet plane
C G C
Far away
C G D
And breakaway chorus
G
Buildings with a hundred floors
C Am
Swinging with revolving doors
G Dm
Well mabe I don't know where they'll take meeee
C G
But gotta keep movin on movin on
C D
Fly away
C G D
And breakaway
C G
I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly
C G D A
And though it's not easy to tell you goodbye
C G
I gotta take a risk take a chance make a change
C G D
And breakaway
C G
Out of the darkness and into the sun

But I won't forget the place I come from
C G
I gotta take a risk take a chance make a change

| I heard this song the other night on the radio while I was drifting in and out of consciousness. This song, to me, sounds like she's dying and becoming an angel. I mean, '' I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly/I'll do what it takes till I touch the sky '' makes me think of angels because DUH! angels have wings, and they're learning to fly, metaphorically speaking. Then, '' Out of the darkness and into the sun/I won't forget all the ones that I love '' is saying she's coming out of the dark which is life, and into the sun, which is Heaven. So, yeah, that's what I think it is. Beautiful song, even though it's not my type of music. Heh. | |

| I don't care.. like I'm not a total fan of Kelly, or like any pop or whatever. But the lyrics are so heartfelt and real, atleast to me, so I just had to like the song, no matter if I'm not into this or what. It's a cute song. | |

| This song speaks to me. It's self explanitory, and when I first heard it, I loved it. I'm more into heavier stuff, but like some people said, the song just speaks to you. I can SO relate to it. I want to get the fuck out of where I am now. I think a good song to follow this up with once you've 'broken away' is 'Cruz' by Christina Aguilera xD | |

| Could be a personal anthem for many people. On some of my more somber days it's mine. In any case, whoever wrote this song (what's that? Avril Lavigne was one you say? O.o) did wonderfully. It's a song that speaks to most of us (if not all). I agree with Saddest_Girl_Story, I like that the lyrics are heartfelt. There are times in a persons life when they feel trapped whether it's by their emotions and their inability to fully express them, the boundaries of their town or the expectations of others, just to mention a few. This song, to me at least, is more of a statement. Because the narrator is saying they'll break away, they're not asking for permission, they're taking charge without trampling over others to do it. "I won't forget all the ones I love" and "Though it's not easy to say goodbye" It's sincere without being cliched and Kelly Clarkson really does it justice. | |

| i love this song so much. i don't really care that much for kelly clarkson usually, to me it seems like she always has this "fake" air about her, esp in her videos, it jus doesn't come natural with her, but thats jus my opinion....but this song is great. everything about it touches me. at this time in my life i'm about to break away from everything i've known the past 17 years and its intimidating but at the same time i know its something i need to do. (bout to graduate) i have lived in a small town my whole life and alot of the time i do feel like kind of... trapped(out of the darkness, into the light)...i wanna discover the world and get out on my own, and to me thats what this song is about. while i don't know where i'm gonna end up or what the future holds i do have to keep movin, i can't stay in this place forever, and i'll definently remember these ppl i've grown up with, they'll be in my heart somewhere forever. and it really is hard to say goodbye but its inevitable that i make some changes, take some risks...and see what else life holds for me. i could write on forever but i'll quit lol...:) | |

| Apparently this was co-written by Avril Lavigne. now i dont like avril, cause she acts hardcore but sings pop, but i do like this song. and im a guy who can admit this. i am usually more into heavier or more acoustic stuff. This song just, sounds good comming from Kelly. i persoanally think that if avril were to have done this song, it would have sucked. | |

| This song speaks of my future, it's meaning is as easy as someone who is in a place they want to get out of, not because of the people, friends and family, they are bored and growing tired, saddened by the same old crap day after day. I live in California, a place that everyone seems to think is wonderful beyond belief. I hate it, this place is the worst %*(&^ state, and I've been to Louisiana, the American Armpit. CA isn't pathetic, like Louisiana or North Dakota, it is just really disgusting and superficial. Just after hearing this song, I knew that is how I felt about being in CA, sick and tired of how horrible it really is, and my need to go and live in a new state. Besides that, I had good friends, but a lot of the time, when I tried to reach and speak out, I'd just get silence in return. Hopefully my next home will be more real, with less people seeing you as transparent. | |

| This song is really personal to me. I am just about to leave home for the first time in my life, in 3 days actually for a program that I am doing, and I won't be able to see any of my family or friends for 7 months, since I am going off across Canada, so it is really sad, and true for me. | |
