-----Misread------
E F# B
If you wanna be my friend
B Dm# E
You want us to get along
E F# B
Please do not expect me to
B Dm# E
Wrap it up and keep it there
E F# B ...ecc ecc
The observation I am doing could
Easily be understood
As cynical demeanour
But one of us misread...
And what do you know
It happened again
A friend is not a means
You utilize to get somewhere
Somehow I didn't notice
friendship is an end
What do you know
It happened again
How come no-one told me
All throughout history
The loneliest people
Were the ones who always spoke the truth
The ones who made a difference
By withstanding the indifference
I guess it's up to me now
Should I take that risk or
just smile?
What do you know
It happened again
What do you know

| This song is so catchy and 'happy', yet once you listen to the lyrics wou realise how sad it is. Especially when you realise you did the same thing as the singer to a friend. Sigh. Honesty is priceless, yet it's repercussions are infinite | |

| i had a slightly different interpretation. when i first heard it, i thought it was about someone who liked another as more than a friend. like he's read into the relationship wrong. a la "misread". as though he's told her he likes her more and now things are awkward and it's too hard to be friends now. "the loneliest people, were the ones who always spoke the truth." like saying, i can't just be your friend because for me you're more than that. boy/girl friendships hardly ever work. one always falls for the other. i can understand everyone elses interpretations though. | |
