this song is the best...when me and my sk8er friends hered this song we knew i was a bought a cross dreser.. my fav part " well im not the worlds most masculin man but i know what i am and thta im a man and SO IS lola" lol .... me and my friends r goin to sing this for a talent show ..this song is the best

In an interview with Dave Davies, member of the Kinks, when Johnny Rogan says "The major revelation in the book is your bisexuality in the '60's." He responds "It doesn't seem strange to me. It was the times. The pop world was show business - and there's always been a homosexual element there. I just thought, Oh, I'll try this out. I didn't feel any qualms about it. It all seemed experimental and fun. I almost did it as an act of rebellion." His brother Ray Davies, who wrote Lola, was definetly homosexual or at least bisexual too.

My brother had an interesting take on this song. Wrong, but interesting... Said that the song was about a woman who was "like a man" in bed; you know, agressive, etc... It thought it was a pretty cool take on the song... Named my bass Lola... :P

Oh by the way, ray had to fly back to Ny and re-record this track because of copyright infringements for using Coca-Cola in the original version. It had to be changed to Cherry Cola eventually. Stupid coca cola... nothing like free advertising in a song that wound up being one for the ages....

Okay this isnt a meaning, but I saw some choirs the other day. One of the choirs was a gay and lesbian choir called gay abandon, and they sang this song (it was great - they also did 'how much is that doggy in the window' as well as serious ones) But it just got me thinking about the meaning. Could it be he is actually gay and knew all along? I know im being damn bigoted and stereotyping hugely here, but the lines "not the worlds most masculine" and "physical guy" could be like, clues towards that. Also "I'd never kissed a woman before"... Aaaaah well, it could be a transexual aswell. Fantastic song.

this song is the shit man. and its definetly about a guy who has his first homo sexual expirenece because the song says 'I never ever kissed a woman before, Lola smiled and took me by the hand, she said, "Little boy, gonna make you a man."' gay people are funny!!

I love this song. Its romantic in a funny way. It is also about meeting someone special for the frsit time, be it man or woman. Hehe. ;-)
