	I think the interpretation above is missing out on the satire in this song -- rather then sympathizing with the "rich" who are being taxed it is lampooning them. They have been taxed so much that they can't sail their yachts anymore, and all they have to do is laze around on a sunny afternoon. Poor them!

	Totally agree with the first poster aswell, no-one is listening to the kinks, which is a shame because they have so many great songs with all kinds of depth and meaning, like lucky 7 demostrated. i would like to thank lucky sevsn, you really helped me understand this song. x.X.x

	The fact that he uses the term "stately home" puts the speaker in a certain class. I think that this song is about the institution of death duties and the decline in the upper classes. The speaker has been taxed to the point where he can't even sustain hmself without selling off his assets. He wants to leave the country as all the wealth his family has accumulated over time has been sucked away with taxes. There are actually some good movies about this from the time period.

	I love the way Davies' voice sounds in this song. It greatly contributes to the mood of the song. Such a great song!
