Subject: CRD: Waterloo Sunset (Kinks)
Waterloo Sunset (Ray Davies)
D A G
1. Dirty old river, must you keep rolling, rolling into the night
D A G
People so busy make me feel dizzy, taxi lights shine so bright
Em B Em7 A
But i don't need no friends
D A G G B E
As long as i gaze on Waterloo Sunset, i am in paradise
E7 A G B E
Every day i look at the world from my window
E7 A7
The chilly-chilliest evening time, Waterloo sunset's fine.
2. Terry meets Julie, Waterloo Station, every Friday night
But i am so lazy, don't want to wander, i stay at home at night
But i don't feel afraid
As long as i gaze on Waterloo Sunset, i am in paradise
Every day i look at the world from my window
The chilly chilliest evening time, Waterloo sunset's fine.
3. Millions of people swarming like flies round Waterloo underground
Terry and Julie cross over the river where they feel safe and sound
And they don't need no friends
As long as they gaze on Waterloo Sunset, they are in paradise
Every day i look at the world from my window
The chilly chilliest evening time, Waterloo sunset's fine.

| Well, Terry, spelled that way, is usually a guy's name. I suppose I could be about lesbians... but I doubt it. And even so, they pair of them, whatever their genders, aren't really the focus of the song. | |

| " dunno if hes talkin about a certain place" there's an underground (subway) station in London called Waterloo, right next to the Thames. Ray Davies grew up in London.........this song is said to be about his feelings for the place. The song can work with anywhere, it just sounds so familiar from the first time you hear it, i guess it just naturally conjures up images of wherever you call home. | |

| I think "Waterloo Sunset" refers to that peaceful place you go into in order to escape the world. Equitable to your "happy place" like in Billy Madison or the "garden" in Andrew Marvell's poem. My little brother described this song by saying "It sounds like a smoothie" which i think is a perfect description. | |

| This song is pure greatness!!! I have the greatest band in The World Def Leppard to thank for introducing me to this dandy. I knew The Kinks, but I didn't know this song. Def Leppard does it great justice, like they've been doing for music for almost 30 years now!!!!! | |
