Song: Waterloo Sunset (by Ray Davies)
Artist: The Kinks
Tabbed by: Goedi_MC@gmx.de

This song I've originally transcripted from the Kink's
Greatest Hits Album "Death Of A Clown". It's one of the best
songs of the Kinks, together with Sunny Afternoon and Dead End Street.

Intro (The first notes are played with bass. The guitar plays just the 2nd fret on the
A string (5th)):

Dirty old river, must you keep rollin
A* fill#1
Flowin into the night
E B
People so busy, make me feel dizzy
A fill#1
taxi lights shine shine so bright

Pre-Chorus:
F#m C#
But I don't
F#m7 B
Need no friends
E / Riff B
As long as I gaze on Waterloo sunset
A / fill#1
I am in paradise

Chorus:
A C# F# B
Every day I look at the world from my window
A C# F# B7
The chilly chilliest evening time, Waterloo sunset's fine

2. Terry meets Judie at Waterloo Station
Every Friday night
But I am so lazy, don't want to wander
I stay at home at night

Pre-Chorus:
But I don't
Feel afraid
As long as I gaze on Waterloo sunset
I am in paradise

Chorus

3. Millions Of people swarming like flies round
Waterloo underground
Terry and Judie cross over the river
Where they feel safe and sound

Pre-Chorus:
And they don't
Need no friends
As long as they gaze on Waterloo sunset
They are in paradise

Riff

Waterloo sunset's fine...

I read somewhere years ago that the line Terry meets Julie refers to the actors Terrance Stamp and Julie Christie. Excellent song

lesbian lovers? Never heard that one before! If you read the (sort of) latest Mojo with the Kinks on the cover Ray explains I think.

amazing song, wouldn't say it was 1 of the best they've done though. i think that all day and all night is much better, more catchy

I can see how it seems there is some voyuerism(spelling?) in this song- watching a couple from his window while he is alone. What's different about this song is he harbors no resentment towards them, he probably just got over a relationship so devestating he prefers to be alone for a while. It does remind me of looking out my window and not wanting to wander like I used to, just feeling safe at my home or at my cabin on the river. I think it's one of the Kink's best, but then again, I haven't heard that much by them.

Amazing song, one of the greats. Ray (the greatest ever songwriter) wrote this in a hospital bed looking out of his window. Very English song.

This is a very nice song, with great atmosphere - of a foggy London town, which is always busy and may seem grey and very fast, where a young person may seem to get lost, but if u have1soul mate - and u are with him/her then every place every dark corner has it's special meaning to you.
