Yes you are all right. I feel maybe it is about a gf/would-be fiance, hence the ' i never told you, I do' bit. Maybe the illness got in the way? and also the 'sweet as a honey glaze'; bit doesnt seem to fit a family member... well anyway i am in love with this song it is sooo sad. like black dress. by the way does anyone know why lots of kisschasy songs are themes around death?

one of their best i reckon the guitar is like a harmony to the song i think it is about looking up to someone you love. "Your bones are sore and weak But your will is as strong as concrete I'd give the air I breathe for you" i agree with Comebackem it is about someone who i s sick and i think that theyy would give anything for that person( probably a gf) and not absolutly all their songs are about death!!!

I cant believe no one has commented on this. A great ballad, i think it is directed to the singer's mother or father, or a close family member, who is sick, hence the last verse. Just saying that his whole life he has looked up to them, but has never said it, until now. I personally like to associate this song to my ex gf, cause this describes her, and she was sick for a while when we were together.

This song is directed to somebody the artist looks up to and admires but can't seem to say it to their face. " The one I look up to But I never told you"
