The way I see it, the writer has done absolutely everything to this one person and gets nothing in return. It sounds like she is in a bad relationship, one where she was treated like crap and given nothing yet she did everything in her power for him. And when they break up, she realises what went on.

It sounds like this song is talking about two people, and one thinks he or she is a true leader, so the other helps him/her out a lot, and all of the mistakes and pain is taken by the helper.. And finally this person can be set free so yea. o.o;; That's proabably not right, but oh well.
