third world soldier clearly refers to how the south was turned into (and in some parts still is) a third world after the civil war

I don't know if im the first to make this judgment but, doesn't the title kind of give the meaning away? Think about it ... the TITLE of the song is looking at it from the middle easts point of view. Seeing as the middle east is god's (in their case Allah) country, and they see us (the coalition) as an invading, evil force. Hence - A devil in gods country ... i don't know, hell i'm probably wrong ... but thats just the way I view it. But yeah, the lyrics tend to lean more towards the 'soldier's' point of view ... Great song!

Sweet Christ, are these the kind of people who listen to America's greatest metal band? Pitiful. It's about Bush. All of it applies to Bush. BUSH, you fucking simpletons, you know, invader of Iraqi HOMES, SLITter of Iraqi THROATS, the man Randy Blythe probably hates more than Hilter? I say again: Pitiful.

i reckon decc's on the right track. check this out Down south soldier, third world soldier - a soldier from down south, sent to a third world country to fight my vengeance will be swift and terrible, many will die - he's got a vendetta for some reason, like maybe one of his friends got killed or somehting then for a while he's just talking about how he wants to take vengeance. drop the coins and send you to charon - charon was the ferryman who ferried people accross the river styx in greek mythology, and on the other side of the river was tartarus, the greek hell. people used to be buried with coins to pay for the ferryman, so he's talking about killing someone here, sending them to hell in the process. the rest of the song's just more about killing. i think its called a devil in gods country for one of 2 reasons: either thats how the enemy views this soldier, or thats how he views himself, cause after all he is a killer, and he is in the traditional "holy land" PS LoG rock so damn hard! and not just randy, the whole crew. the guitars rule! the drums are absolutely crazy!!! Rock on!!!! \m/ \m/ PPS i agree with everyone who insulted threechairsblack. you are an arrogant dick, just the kind of elitist, self righteous fuckwit that LoG profess to hating, and with good reason. suck my balls.

Sekiria, I think I know what's happening. Look up a song/download a song called "In Defense of our Good Name" and see if it matches up. I encountered the same problem, but it turns out "In Defense of our Good Name" and "A Devil In God's Country" were mixed up. Hope this helps.
