	While I think it's entirely possible this is a sacreligious song, if you pay attention to the rest of the album, it doesn't really make sense, and Lamb of God albums are usually very cohesive. I'm leaning towards the idea that Randy is saying that Bush and his administration are a disgrace to those who have truly sacrificed themselves for the ideals of this great country in the past, whereas the wars waged by the new administration are merely fueled by a thirst for glory and power (lines 17,18)

	Although at first this song sounds extremely sac-religious, after listening to it several times i believe it is just trying to use Gog or the "Father" as a comparison to our nation's leader. it is trying to show that just as christians practice blind faith so do many citizens, the song demonstrates how easliy people are governed like "sheep" and the song takes a stand back with the words "i deny you(r)"

	How in the hell do you guys arrive at a political meanings from this? I don't normally just insult peoples opinions, but you must be fucking blind! He MENTIONS the nation in this song, but in a religious way. This is completely a religious song, or sacreligious rather. He's refusing god and blaming him for the problems around us. It's a fuking awesome song. In case you didn't notice, he said "when I've prayed to see the nation that i love disintegrate" well, he's saying that to god that he prayed to him for the country and he's watching it go to shit, it's all about cursing god. Look at the whole fuking picture, not just one line. The last line is the best "smite the shepard and the sheep will be scattered." Good message...

	Yeah, the idea that bands should never say anything that may alienate fans is stupid. Music is art and to suggest that they should in some way censor their opinions is basically the same as saying "I want all my bands to be souless sell outs". Randy is talking about something which is important to him, you don't have to agree with his opinion, but if it offends you that much, then don't listen to him. Randy Blythe isn't an anarchist, he just hates Bush and his regime. I think it is so sick that any American citizen who critisizes the government is seen to be unpatriotic or anarchistic.

	well pesonally i dont think lamb of god give a fuck what we think about thier politically feuled lyrics, randy blythe has often said that he lovesd his country, and just has problems in the way it is ran, if you dont agree thats your problem. personally i agree entirely with him and i feel america is ran by power hungry- money loving fools who dont give a fuck about the population, who control the media and polititians and ecomomy. but what can you do.. and its not always about bush guys, this song could have been written 30 years ago and still mean the same.

	I think everyones got the right idea. If you really try to see the meaning behind alot of lamb Of Gods lyrics you realize that Randy or Mark or whoever wrote these lyrics weaves in and out of political and religious themes. lamb of God has always been anti-religion and anti government, especially liberal Randy. ON emintue he's talkin almost in refernce to god and the next he's talkin about his nation. Like alot of the stuff its a combination of both.

	An homage to those have died for the values that are unreachable today. Americans revoltyed over a 3 cent tax on tea and papers. taxes now take a 1/3 of our money roughly. A patriotic song now for our forefawthers now seen in an unamerican light. Normalcy doesnt mean it's right. I'm a member of the armed forces, god bless america even though i hate him and let us prosper of our own free will and let us recognize that religion is the root of our time's turmoil.

	First of all, Firefly, you are retarded. Before you make a statement you might want to find out the facts. Bush took office in 2000. The album was released in 2003. So unless the song was written before their first "Lamb of God" album "New American Gospel" which was released in 2000, then your wrong. Anyways, this song could be interpreted either way. Whether is be about god or bush, and I believe Blythe wrote it this way for a reason. It really broadens the topic this way and gives the listener the opportunity to interpret the lyrics his or her own way. Nonetheless, the song is about a person of high importance or power that is not fulfilling their duties.

	Totally dude. The role of god/sheppard in this case would be played by bush and the sheep would be the American Public. I think Randy feels badly becuase although he has immense pride for America and what it originally stood for, Bush has come and enslaved the people with his lies and propaganda. Like they said in an interview "It's a scary time to be alive".
