C#9 D9 C#9 D9 A6 A9 A6 A9
I do, well, but I know, yeah

Now let me tell you 'bout my girl
I open up a newspaper and what do I see?
Ah, see my girl, ah
Ah, lookin' at me
Ooh, and when she walks, she walks,
Let me tell you
When she talks, she talks
And when she looks me in my eye
She's my baby, Lord, I wanna make her mine
Oh, tell me baby what you want me to do
And you want me to love you
Love some other man
Oo they ain't gonna call me Mister Pitiful No
I don't need no respect from nobody no,
I ain't gonna tell you nothin, I ain't gonna tell you no more,
No she is my baby, let me tell you that I love her so
And, and she's the woman I really wanna love and let me tell you more
Oo, she's my baby, let me tell you she lives
Next door
She's the one a woman, the one a woman that I know
I ain't goin', I ain't goin', I ain't gonna tell.
I ain't goin' tell you one thing that you really ought a know
But - she's my lover baby, and I love her so.
And - she's the one that really makes me whirl and twirl
And - she's the kind of lover that makes me fill the whole world
And - she's the one who really makes me jump and shout
Oh - she's the kind of girl that I know what it's all about
Take it home,
Take it, take it, take it

Ah, excuse me,
Ah, will you excuse me?
I'm just try'n a find the bridge,
Has anybody seen the bridge?
(spoken) Please, have you seen the bridge?
I ain't seen the bridge
Where's that confounded bridge?

I don't know...give it a try,

This song is a play on James Brown's style in the same way that "D'yer Mak'er" messes around with reggae. The keyboard replaces the horn section. Since most of James Brown's early recordings were done live with almost no rehearsal time, he often gave directions to the band in-song e.g. "take it to the bridge" - the bridge of the song. It's not symbolic, it's a tribute to JB.

First, this song ain't bad. Check it out, all of you. This song is kinda wierd in the sense that they are exploring new terroritory. The rythym and beat and overall music this song generates is not of Zep nature. (This came out on Led Zeppelin 3, didn't it? If I am mistaken, let me know) Robert is, once again, talking about his girl. I have no clue what the bridge is...maybe they/he were high?

This song is really good, and it's shows their creativity. And for the 'posers' comment, I listen to all the songs, I don't do it as a social statement or nothing. It's good music, I don't care what kind of people listen to it, because it's about what the song means to you, not some 'punk' kid or something.

theplunketts is right. The only one to mention James Brown. Makes you wonder where some people get their information.

Haha...this song makes me laugh. It's def not a normal zep song, but it's catchy. It's by far not their best, but i like it. It's a lot of talkin fit into 3:19. I love robert's "where's that confounded bridge"

alright first off i dont like how some one would comment on this song and not even know what cd it is, come on get real. second, the only reason some one wouldnt like this led zeppelin song is because they follow everyone else and dont really like led zeppelin, they are the ones u find playing out black dog, heartbreaker, living loving maid, whole lotta love and the other big hits, u know the ones the posers listen to. thirdly this song isnt about a girl its about marijuana, hence the name mary jane and it being a girls name, if he was to tell us that he would have gotten in trouble, and she would not come around anymore. lastly, the bridge deals with a famous movie during the mid 70s and nothing more! so if ur going to listen to led zeppelin for god sakes dont listen to just the famous songs, thanks

Pabstdrinkin and zedleppin are being stupid. the real posers are people who listen to certan songs so that they look cool. zedleppin is very cool because he doesnt listen to mainstream stuff, its wrong. yeah fucking right. just listen to the songs you like, wether they're mainstream or not. and Pabstdrinkin, stairway to heaven is an awesome song. this song, however, is a total funk song. If you listen to the intro (before the vocals) it sounds EXACTLY like a red hot chili peppers song (the kings of funk i might add) anyways its a pretty good song. not very zeppeliny, but cool cause they're tryin something thats not their regular style.

theplunketts is right...this song is a tribute to James Brown. I wouldn't say it is a great song, but I find it listenable. The studio version is a little weak, but Jimmy plays an awesome version of this riff during Dazed and Confused on How the West Was Won.
