Page overdubs to get that wall of sound here. I think a sitar was also
overdubbed.

PURE POETRY. It seems that this guy(Mr. Plant) had either a one night stand with this woman or was a past girlfriend of his and had the fortunateness to reunite with her after a long period of time. It also hints on a fate / zen kind of love that had the chance to be reopened after a long time of being apart.

Definitely my favourite song by Led Zeppelin. The guitar is amazing and just hits me in such a way that I almost fall to my knees each time I hear it. The lyrics are so beautiful. Plant has basically said what the song is about, as stated a few comments above me.. a girl he was with said it was either her or the music, and he picked the music. I get the feeling that he's looking back on the relationship, remembering what she does in fact mean to him. Personally, it reminds me of my nephew who was killed a year and a half ago.. especially the somber guitar riff. It reminds me of my dad telling me he was killed, and walking in the rain for a few hours in a complete daze, trying desperately to convince myself that he wasn't dead.

I LOVE this song. It's so sad. Yea, it's about Robert's girlfriend 10 years before that made him choose between her and the music. What a bitch!! Wise decision. The girl was an idiot though. I guess he really loved her though. Can you imagine how he felt??

the guitar playing really is very very good in this song, the guitar is better than most led zeppelin songs in my opinion, jimmy page is the man.

Lyrically one of Led Zeppelin's best. You could also say that for the riff. I mean 14 guitars overdubbed? The wall of sound that is created from it all just makes you realize that Jimmy Page was almost creating art. Its one of those songs that are not recognized up to the standards as like, Stairway
