	Ramthar has made a very pertinent point. Zepplin are masters at reviving very traditional blues songs or inserting snippets of traditional 'blues phrases' into theri tracks. I love listening to blues made up to WWII and am often surprised about the odd lyric cropping up in a Zeppelin track.

	Kukerdan friggin scared me, I thought I could get through a whole zeppelin review w/out hearing lotr, then he said that and I almost drowned some puppies or ate a baby. lotr people piss me off so much when it comes to zeppelin. Great song, blues reference makes more sense than sex thing but I will never doubt Plant on sex. Amazing everything, this song was killed by a perfect circle when they covered it for emotive. But APC sill rocks.

	this may be a bit too obvious, but isnt the whole point of songs with double entendres is that the song has two meanings? Therfore, When The Levee Breaks is about both the history of Blues AND sex. Side note: I've never heard a harmonica sound like that, ooooooh sends chills down my spine every time i hear it.

	this is just such a gritty amazing song. I guess its just about hard times approaching and trying to hold onto what you got left to stop the flood of problems from rushing in.

	ledzepp115 is pretty accurate, but there is more to it. after the american civil war, many former slaves moved to the fertile land surrounding the Mississippi River to rebuild their lives as farmers. alot of little shanty towns sprung up on the banks of the Mississippi, and it became necessary to build a Levee to protect them. it was in these towns that blues music was born. in 1913 the river flooded and destroyed the levee and the shanty towns with it. following the flood, most of the former inhabitants of these towns moved either north to Chicago (this is mentioned in the song) or south to New Orleans, which is why these cities later produced so many incredible bluesmen who were an inspiration to Led Zeppelin.

	Screw the history of blues, the song rocks and tere's probably only like one other song that can bring that kind of Ble riff from a rock band... I don't know what I'm saying, sorry, it's early...

	I always thought Plant was singing about his lady being on her monthly, her hot and cold running moods, and the frustration of not getting sex for a week. When her period hits, he's thinking that she might not be pleasant to be around and "have no place to stay." It "even makes a mountain man leave his home." At one point he goes down south to look for work but there is none (because she is bleeding there) and considers either moving to Chicago (possibly to visit a bordello) or trying to talk her into giving him a blow job (Chicago being the "windy city" and as we know, wind blows). Finally he's had it with her attitude and tells her, "mama you got to move." At the end of the song he is "going down," possibly drowning and decides that Chicago is the answer. Whether this means he has finally talked her into the blow job or decided to move, who knows? If he's not moving then perhaps "sorry but I can't take you" is her reesponse to his advance. Plant used some wonderfully dirty metaphors in his lyrics which were often taken from older classics where the double meaning was intended in the first place. I agree about all of the historical stuff up there. It just makes the double entendre more interesting.

	This is a killer song, everytime I hear it I can picture a big swamp out in Louisianna or somethin. You'd almost think you were listening to Skynyrd, well not really but yeah. Good song, I'd recomend it to anyone that hasn't heard it yet.
