This article describes a musical group. For the candy, see Lemon Heads.
The Lemonheads are an indie, alternative and punk band from the United States.
Current frontman and vocalist Evan Dando formed the band in Boston in 1984 with his high school classmates Ben Deily (who initially shared vocal duties) and bassist Jesse Peretz. Initially the band was called the Whelps, but changed to Lemonheads before the release of their debut EP, Laughing All the Way to the Cleaners on a local indie label. The band then released three albums for Taang! Records before signing with Atlantic Records in 1990.
Since forming, recording and touring lineups of the band have included John Strohm ( Blake Babies), Corey Loog Brennan, Juliana Hatfield, Nic Dalton (Godstar, Sneeze, The Plunderers), Dave Ryan, Patrick "Murph" Murphy ( Dinosaur Jr), Bill Gibson (Eastern Dark), Mark Newman, Kenny Lyon and various others.
The band's breakthrough came with their second LP for Atlantic Records in 1992, It's a Shame About Ray, the reissue of which featured their hit cover of the Simon & Garfunkel track "Mrs Robinson". Tracks on both Ray and its follow-up, Come on Feel the Lemonheads were co-authored by Australian songwriter Tom Morgan of the band Smudge.
The band officially renamed themselves with the "The" prefix prior to the release of the Come on Feel the Lemonheads LP.
The band helped in a 1996 tribute album for Schoolhouse Rock creator Thomas G. Yohe, which contain remakes of many popular Schoolhouse Rock songs like Conjunction Junction, I'm Just a Bill, and Interplanet Janet.
