Just in case someone is inquiring about the meaning, here's my two obvious cents. It's about a relationship enduring great trial or hardship.

i am band memeber , and my most recent performance was my first performance.it was an important occasion , as it was Honor's Day at school. my band , apparently , was playing STAND BY ME as the final choice piece . after stand by me was played , everybody applauded gratefully , showing that they enjoyed the song STAND BY ME more than the other songs...they applauded so enthusiastically that the great feeling is still felt in my heart...i love this song , and it is one song i will cherish forever...

I actually like John's version better than King's version, because I take this as a more demanding stand by me, the first is much smoother

I actually like John's version than Ben E. Kings. Anyway, I LOVE JOHN LENNON. I cried when he sang the lyrics " I wont cry, I won't cry. No I won't shed a tear." That's when I cried, ironically. I just miss him so much. John Lennon, I mean. Even though I was born in 1991, I just wish that I could view him in the TV just like he was alive. I love this song!!!

I think the lyrics speak for themselves but I still feel like I need to say something, It's asking someone to stand by you no matter what. And I think that Lennon's version is so different (and great) from the original by Ben E King (also great) that they just can't be compared and both are neccisary.

The genius that lennon shares is is the simplicity of his lyrics, yet the complexity that all great communicator's express
