| To point out the obvious, Albion is an ancient name for Great Britain. S'pose it's a bit like an alternative national anthem. | |

| It's a libertines song, written whilst pete was still in the libertines. it was sung when they had that reunion after pete came out of prison, and again at the reunion at the hackney empire. | |

| This is the only song ever made in the history of mankind that genuinely makes me proud to be British. Gets me every time. Long live the Libertines and may the Good Ship Albion sail on to Arcadia for ever more!!! God bless you all x | |

| This song is about a book, where in which the protagonist lives a life of a solitary man, where he doesn't ever have to face the music, eg. no consequences for his actions, no people being nosy. In effect, it is about the life Pete Doherty would love to live. | |

| This is why I want to move to the UK some time in the distant future. "talk over gin in teacups and leaves on the lawn" The most beautiful lyrics are the simplest ones. They say so little, yet they say everything. | |

| Correcting the blindingly obvious-- - Albion isn't Latin for anything. It's admittedly classically used, but it was apparently the British people's own name for the island. - It wasn't written while Pete was in the Libertines, but beforehand. As it's only been recorded with Babyshambles, then they have a better claim to it than the Libs - but ultimately it's a Peter Doherty song. Anyway, I think it's a pleasant contrast between idealism and reality in Britain. There's a certain affection to it. Personally I think it's about a longing for home more than anything. | |

| The Libs recorded and performed it loads, but never released it, unless you count the parts of it included on the second album DVD. But it doesn't really matter, I just prefer the Libs and solo versions. | |

| Albion is latin for Britain and the Albion rooms were these resrictionless rooms in Pete and Carls flat (as was previously said...) Um, also, basicly, I think this song is the romantic, arcadian ideal that Pete dreams of. A combination of old-fashioned Britain: "yellowing classics and, canons at dawn, coffee wallows and pith helmets, and oh an English sun"...... and a slightly more tainted and sordid side: "violence in dole queues" "a pale thin girl".... Then also, just subtly british things, like 'reebok classics' and 'underground stations'. Things that Pete has managed to identify in everybodys minds.... Basicly, I think it captures a romantic ideal. And it is a beautiful song, I based my art gcse exam on it :) | |
