| I agree with monsoonboy on the meaning of the phrase 'death on the stairs' - that anecdote is included in the book 'Bound Together'. For me though, this song is more about encapsulating youth and young adult life - drunken misadventures, falling in and out of love, etc - the type of behaviour which is almost complete opposite to the state of body and mind that 'death on the stairs' refers to, and the lyrics are almost a romantic guideline to avoiding 'death on the stairs'. | |

| Indeed it does.. also, just to be pedantic, the little boy on the stairwell says: "i hate being poor like you".. This is probably my favourite libertines songs, and i pretty much love them all. It's just about their simpler, romaticised times before fame and all that. | |
