| This songs seems to be about a girl, but I think the 'girl' is really Carl. I think it is written about their friendship. It's such a sad song. Someone above said that it couldn't be about Carl and Pete because it was written before their fallout, but they have had fallouts since the very beginning of their relationship. There was never just one fallout. It's about all the good times they've shared and how sad it is that they know their friendship is falling apart and they can't do anything to stop that. A beautiful song - one of their best. | |

| Well, I'M ONE OF THE TWO GOING TO THE SAME HIGHSCHOOL, LOL. this song means loads to me considering the libertines are my fav band. on the last day of school, this song wuz my breaking point, for nearly the whole day i didn't cry, but once i heard this one, i burst into tears. the song itself is quite self-explanitory, and wuz written by then both at a point were they understood the problems with peter but didn't want to confront him on them, because they just made peace, and during the recording this is the only song that actually got pete and carl to fight, the rest of the recording went fine but this song probably made them more emotional than ever. i no it made me that way. love it forever. (how wuz that for a comment .::.tralalalala.::. , hm?) | |

| its about a girl: Music when the lights come on The girl I thought I knew has gone And with her my heart it disappeared brilliant way to simbolize his feelings for the lost or a girl...not feeling the music until lights reach the girl | |

| is it pete or carl singing the main part of this song. it sounded like carl to me but i can't always tell. anywhoo: "And all the memories of the pubs And the clubs and the drugs and the tubs We shared together Will stay with me forever But all the highs and the lows And the to's and the fro's They left me dizzy Oh darling, please forgive me But I no longer hear the music" is a great set of words. one of the best songs on this album. i think it was written about a girl, but like everybody commented, could easily apply to the friendship between the bandleaders. | |

| i doubt very much that its about a girl 'cos in the other songs about their friendship they seem to sig as if they're talking about a girl..... but thats just my view on it | |

| It's not about the end of Pete and Carl's relationship because this song was originally recorded in 2001 on their demos, long before their fallouts, however, it could indeed be applied to them but it's not likely. | |

| Maybe Pete realises that their friendship is breaking up, but he doesn't want to tackle the issue with Carl and so he deals with the problem indirectly in this song. | |

| This song has a lot of meaning to me. The first time I heard it was the "legs 11" version of it, full of innocence, happiness and bounce. The next time i heard it was on 'the libertines', sung heartbreakingly by Peter and Carlos. It had lost it's happiness and innocence, and was still too beautiful. Pulled into a dark place, just like Peter. | |

| i think its about PETE losing a girl he loved over his drinking problem, and music is his life, so because she is gone he doesnt hear music anymore, his life has gone because of her. I LOOOOOOOVE IT!!!! best song EVA! | |
