Amazing song and it really clears things up if you read "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde, one of Carl & Pete's favorite authors

i like your info debzypip. i'd never heard the part about echo. and dorian gray is an amazing book. a personal favourite. it's all about how youth and beauty are the only things that REALLY matter but it's also about how having that but having a corrupted soul sucked just as much as getting old. kindov something like that. i actually haven't heard this song yet but i'm getting it now. the title attracted me and then the lyrics, so yeah, i'm commenting on a song i've never heard but i don't care. the lyrics look great.

"wouldnt it be nice to be dorian gray, just for a day" genius. because the point of the book is that he has to live forever with all the evil and corrupt things he's done, and only when the picture is destroyed he can die. i think anyway. so i think the "just for a day" bit is really clever

the story has a bit more to it, well theres another part which might interest some of you guys, the flowers, which grew by the pond (he might even have turned into one, if memory serves) were named after him, so thats where the narcissus got its name, theyre those yellow easter flowers, very pretty

this one's based on the oscar wilde book...if you didn't know...first i thought that it was about how it would be so much easier just to be beautiful and have no worries but now i'm not so sure...what do you think?

It's just about beauty not being worth much, and if you care too much about it the ageing process will just devastate you. Also, it reminds me a lot of the Kinks, especially the first verse.

You were really close. Narcissus was in love with himself, his weakness being that he stared at himself for long periods of time. One day, he caught sight of himself in the reflection off a pond. He sat by the pond looking at himself for the rest of his life. I really forget most of Echo's story, but she could only repeat words said to her, and therefore couldn't express her love for Narcissus. I'm pretty sure she went and lived in a cave after that. I learned this is Freshman English, and that was two years ago. Dayum.

this song embodies all that the libertines stood for.oscar wilde's desciption of beauty and youth in picture of dorian grey is better than any other form of literature ever.please read it.why i adore this song is that a contempory artist is admiring the brilliance of a great poet, while vulgar rap artists talk about money and bitches.
