Intro Chords:
C, Em, Am, Am7, Dm7, G x2

C Em
Well is it cruel or kind
Am Am7
Not to speak my mind
Dm7
And to lie to you
G
Rather than hurt you
C Em
Well, I'll confess all of my sins
Am Am7
After several large gins
Dm7
But still I'll hide from you
G
And hide what's inside from you

C Em
And alarm bells ring
Am Am7
When you say your heart still sings
Dm7
When you're with me
G
Oh won't you please forgive me
C
I no longer hear the music
Em Am Am7 Dm7 G
Oh no no no no no

C Em
And all the memories of the pubs
Am Am7
And the clubs and the drugs and the tubs
Dm7
We shared together
G
Will stay with me forever

C Em Am
But all the highs and the lows
Am7
And the tos and the fros
Dm7
They left me dizzy
G
Oh won't you please forgive me

C
I no longer hear the music
Em Am Am7 Dm7 G
Oh no no no no no

G F# F C
Well I no longer hear the music when the lights go out
F C
Love goes cold in the shades of doubt
F D G G F#
The strange fate in my mind is all too clear
F C
Music when the lights come on
F C
The girl I thought I knew has gone
F D G G7
And with her my heart it disappeared

I no longer hear the music
Em Am Am7 Dm7 G
Oh no no no no no

And all the memories of the fights and nights
Under blue lights and all the kites
We flew together
Love thought they'll fly forever

But all the highs and the lows
And the tos and the fros
They left me dizzy
Oh won't you please forgive me

But I no longer hear the music
Oh no no no no no

Music when the lights go out
Love goes cold in the shades of doubt
The strange face in my mind is all too clear

Music when the lights come on
The girl I thought I knew has gone
And with her my heart it disappeared

But I no longer hear the music
Oh no no no no no
And I no longer hear the music

well its obviously about carl and pete and they just made it seem like they were talking about a girl just so that not everyone would think its about their relationship...im stupidly guessing...well anyways this song is ubberly important to me and me thwee bestest buddies in the whole wide world!!! cause only two out of us four are going to the same high school so its ubberly heart breaking and this song is like an ending relationship song...and it made us cry like mad on the last day of elementary so for me this song is about that sad time...THE LYRICS ARE AWESOME!!! garsh peteie and carlie are geniuses :D well yeah im out byez...bella say something too!!!

this is just my view but i think the song is written about pete and carls freindship and the fact that both of them no its going to end "And all the memories of the pubs And the clubs and the drugs and the tubs We shared together Will stay with me forever" this lyric suggests that they are remebering the good parts of the freindship and the i no longer hear the music is them saying they have no feelings for eachother anymore BUT on listining to this song again i found another meaning they could be singing about a girl who has left one of them...... anyway those are my views u dont have to agree.

It's just about falling out of love with someone you still care about. You still care for them but don't feel the way you used to feel "is it cruel or kind not to speak my mind". Fallen out of love, the spark is gone and the relationship is just continuing because you like each other too much to hurt the other person by splitting up.

This song has a lot of meaning to me. The first time I heard it was the "legs 11" version of it, full of innocence, happiness and bounce. The next time i heard it was on 'the libertines', sung heartbreakingly by Peter and Carlos. It had lost it's happiness and innocence, and was still too beautiful. Pulled into a dark place, just like Peter.

to me this song is about getting so caught up in loving some1 you dont think about it and then u find yourself caught up in things, not really feelign the person anymore but feelign the moments you spent with them. its about people changin but beign scared to admit to them because you care about them no matter what. to me it was about me and my ex rich. we both knew things were different and it was over. i love this song.

After Pete got out of prison they gave an interview saying they were fulfilling their own prophecies in their darkest lyrics, if they redid this song for the new album they are probably reinforcing that point…

I think this song was probably originally about a girl, but when they redid it for their S/T it was meant to be about Pete and Carl's relationship.

I agree with evelong86 on this one. But anyway great song. Real pity that The Libs disbanded. I'd have loved to see them live :(

I don't know what this songs about really. I agree with a lot of you guys- it sounds like it's about a girl. And it's kinda unlikely that it was specifically writtewn for Pete & Carl, but definitely fits in. I
