Ok. I see what jacinta and *baby_girl* are saying with the whole anchor thing. So! Going with the idea that an anchor 'keeps you down'... It can be interpreted this way. Your anchor keeps you grounded to reality when all of life around you is confusing you. That's how I see this song. In the verses, he seems like he's confused and cant find his way. But, then there's his anchor that pulls him back and sets him straight. Does that help any with the whole "anchor" idea?

*baby_girl*, I believe the anchor would be anchoring him to LAND, not pulling him deeper into the sand.

This reminds me of my friend, but instead of knowing that he'll always be there I'm stuck hoping he won't let me go. I know him to hold me down, and stop me from making mistakes. He's my anchor, and the only thing that grounds me sometimes. If he were to let go of me I would probably float away. I love this song though! It's so good. The lyrics are great!

For me, this song can be looked at in two ways, the first being that you can love someone and they can help you through difficult times in your life, which is the nice one. But the one I find more likely (sorry to disagree with everyone!) is that its about someone dragging you down. "I know that I'll never be alone you will never let me go you are my anchor hold my hand while I'm sinking in the sand" Seems abit too dark to be based on feelings of love and wanting to help someone, would you really want and anchor if you were sinking in sand....the sand being a metaphor for sadness and overwhelming emotion?
