This is a song from Stanley. I can't wait til the song interpretations come out for SCF, becuase I'm interested to see what Jason has to say about these. I love the song, and I'm really looking forward to breaking the suspense I'm putting up with in anticipation for the CD.

"Everybody knows your name, but they don't know who you are" sounds to me like a celebrity. And also: "She said, 'Fame will bring you down', At least that's what she used to say." A celebrity whose lost her identity in the tabloids and the crowds and the acting.

Everybody knows who you are if they look at you, but they dont really know what your about or what you're like as a person, they dont really care. There are so many people like that, i think everyone is really, you see it in school everyday, you know everyones names but you dont know who they are, its wierd. "Everybody knows your name, But they don't know who you are, But to them it's just a game. And I think it's gone too far. Everybody knows your name, But they don't know who you are. You've got the most familiar face, But you're just another name." "Its just a game", everyone does it no one thinks anythng of it. "Youve got the most familiar face but you're just another name".... if anything happened to you, an ccident or something people wouldnt really care, well maybe some would, they'd be like oh yeh, that name sounds familiar, arr oh well. Just like you were nothing Thats probarbly sooo far off but thats what i think about, songs mean different things to different people, thats what makes good songs.

I love this song so much because it is so meaningful and true. The fact that it could be interpreted in your own way makes this song so great. Andahh, I believe is right about what this song means. However, I have a slightly different twist. He is singing about a girl who is faced with this identity battle. You go throughout your day showing your face and everybody knows your name. But to them you and everyone else are just names too. Nobody can see right through you and read your life story. "Everybody knows your name, But they don't know who you are, But to them it's just the same. Yeah, you're just another name." He accepts that she wants to change her identity to being famous. He emphasizes "crown" as royalty...to be popular. However, this will never happen and popularity is only within herself. "She said, "Fame will bring you down", At least that's what she used to say. Then I handed her another crown. She said it would never be this way." He tells her all the negative aspects of being popular with everyone that knows everything about you. All the responsibilities she would have to face- "Yesterday she was a little girl Pretending she was queen. Didn't know it'd change the world. Didn't know what this would mean." Now he is telling the girl to just be herself, the way he likes her to be- "Which mask will you wear today? How 'bout the one with a pretty smile? To you it's just another day In a life you haven't lived in quite a while." (this is my favorite part of the song) Now I'm going back to the beginning of the song. It already summed up the whole story. He is asking her if she learned a lesson from all of this. She has climbed up in ranks only to fall back with unhappiness. "These clouds around you break your fall As you came crashing to the ground. Did you learn anything at all? You climb back up to come back down." I think this is as close as it gets. I'm open for different perspectives though...

I like this song. It is in terms of subject matter my favorite Lifehouse song. It is about how if you're there that's fine-if not, fine too. It is about how sometimes you feel worthless to others. As long as you are doing what you are supposed to be doing, no one cares. You don't matter, or have an identity and you aren't important. That is how this song could realate to anyone. Most specifically, however, this song is about a young girl who loses her identity in Hollywood. She is just another star, just another sexy figure and beautiful face. It is about how famous people loose their identity. They're just known for being a name. Whenever I hear this song I think of Marilyn Monroe. She was a famous woman who lost her identity in Hollywood. She is probably the icon of making yourself over and loosing your real name, identity, and any ties to a former life iin the glitz and glamour of fame. Though this song is not about Marilyn Monroe, it could be.
