Lifehouse
Only One
Intro
Eb - Ab
Eb - Ab
Eb
She's got a pretty smile
Ab
It covers up the poison that she hides
Cm Bb
She walks around in circles in my head
Ab
Waiting for a chance to break me
Cm
A chance to take me down
Bb
Now I see this burden you gave me
Ab
is too much to carry
Cm
Too much to bury inside
Ab Eb
I guess you're the only one
Bb Cm
That nobody changes
Ab Bb
I guess you're the only one left standing when everything else goes down
Cm Ab
You're still the only one
Cm Ab
You're still the only one
Eb - Ab
It's all shallow and all so appealing
I'm up to my ankles and I'm drowning anyway in a sea of
Sarcastic faces
Familiar places
Where everything looks
Quite the same here it's
All confusingly amusing bitter and tainted
The picture you painted to me
I guess you're the only one
That nobody changes
I guess you're the only one left standing when everything else goes down
You're still the only one
Who will never change faces
I guess you're the only one left standing when everything else goes down
Just 'cause it's all in your head
Doesn't mean it has to be in mine
Don't believe what you said
Still can't get it out of my mind
I've tried to find myself in approval
I've already been there
Already done that
It got me nowhere
It brought me nothing but
A good place to hide in
No one to confide in now
I guess you're the only one that nobody changes
I guess you're the only one who will never
Change faces i guess you're the only one
Tuned down half a step maybe? Suuure:
Eb = E
Ab = A
Cm = C#m
Bb = B

| this is going to be a long message but i've loved this song for a while, just never thought closely of the meaning. but its so appliacble to my life right now, i have to write the meaning that sprung to mind when i just this second heard it society see's this "couple" as being unsuitable. one is deep, the girl with the pretty smile hiding her poison. and the guy, shall we say, being shallow. everyone else looks on with sarcastic faces. you know the one you're with will hurt you, "waiting for a chance to take me". and soon, all this hurt is too much to bury inside, but despite this, still they're the only one. when everything else goes wrong, they're the only one you need. being with them seems shallow to others, but to you, its everything. they don't see the difficulties as difficulties because you knew you'd get hurt. but the partner painted a picture but its so confusing because everyone else is telling you different things. everyone else seemed so lovely til things went wrong in your relationship. they left you or disliked you for the path you took. but the one who is supposed to have caused pain is the only one not changing faces. they want you back but you've been there and done that. you know it hurts when you're with them again, you know it lost you friends with no one to confide in, but they're still the only one i tried to get that to make sense. i get too passoonate when it comes to songs | |

| i think that in this song jason is talking to god. he speaks of a girl who betrayed him or something. and he realises that situations and emotions change people. people can be nice one minute then nasty thenext - thats the way life is, but then he says - 'you know god, you dont change, youll always be loving and caring and youll never let me down.' thats what i think anyway | |

| Why does everything have got to to with God and religion? i dont get that... im a christina, but i dont have a "personal relationship" with God. i see what you mean, those of you who say that it is about Him, but i see it as he's talking about a girl.. or for me; a guy.. not god. but i respect your opinions :) | |

| He has really got burned by some girl. He changed himself for this girl, and afterwards, he is left with what he has become and who she really was. Then, he looks to God and realizes that no one can change Him. He has been looking for love and consistancy in romantic relationships, but it really can only be found in God. I love Lifehouse, they write love-songs to God. I mean, afterall, as the Church, we ARE His bride. Why shouldn't we write Him some love-songs and sonnets? | |

| oh wow, i never saw it that way before... i guess, it makes alot more sense now that i know... i always thought that "you're still the only one left standing when everything else falls down" referred to a manipulative person who uses everyone, and when people break down, he/she is the only one left unaffected by the damage that he/she has created. | |

| I think it has to do with a person in your life...rather it be a good friend or family member. Time keeps going by and everyone is changing...becoming better people ...but that one person in your life stays the same even though there's so much changing around them. Neat song! | |

| umm...this song is actually about Jason Wade's dad after his parents went through a divorce. He resented his dad. It was one of the earlier songs he wrote. It makes me think of a friend that treated me really badly. I saw her as the only one...b/c she never changed. | |

| Jason Wade: "I wrote "Only One" right after someone in my life did something I felt was totally wrong. It was a really tough time for me. I have these trails in my life, like my dad leaving and my not being with him anymore, and then this man, who I really looked up to, failing. "Only One" is about how sometimes people are just not there for you and you have to look somewhere else for guidance." http://www.lifehousefans.com/lyrics/interpretations.html It's interesting how none of Jason Wade's interpretations relate to god or religion. But I think their newest CD has finally shed them of that image. | |

| while i'm not religious at all...i do know a lot about biblical studies, and even though the song doesn't mean this to me - i think it somewhat follows the story of lillith - the temptress...i think he's speaking of a girl who is trying to tempt him to deviate from his true beliefs, much in the same way as lillith did in the bible, but he knows that girls like that don't last, and god does. | |

| a friend of mine used the first paragraph of this song for me. i don't know what to think of it since it's possible we have different interpretations for this song. i'd like to think it was his way of letting me know how confusing our situation is. but if there's someone who's "walking around in circles in my head" and who gave a burden that's too much to carry, it's actually him. | |

'hey you're so conceited, you think nothing can touch you' (and now i feel bad too, jimmyrocks27, 'cause i thought it differently too). i think i never thought about it being about God was because he says I GUESS you're the only one -- 'cause with God, there is no guessing.. He IS the only One.. | |

| Yeah, like other people in this line, I think the meaning is about a guy who is struggling to destroy his fondness for a girl that never really feels emotion for anyone. This girl, who apparently contains poison, was also never born with the ability to feel emotion or get hurt by anyone, and thus, no one has affected her or changed her throughout her life. The Guy knows she's like this, and everyone one around him knows this, but he just can't seem to get her out of his head. He's already been emotionally involved too, has the song states "I've already been there" and he knows being with her is worthless and painful, but he just keeps trying anyhow. | |

| *This track can be found ni NNF while Storm and others can be found in their CD Diff's Lucky Day when their name was still Blyss* Hm... I have 2 opinions about this song... First of all, I think it's a gurl that he's in love with, who's hurt him, and done everything. After all the hurt he's gone through, he thinks the gurl will change, but unfortunately she doesn't, she never does, that's why she's the ONLY ONE left standing when everything else goes down (changes) Another Opinion I have is that it's about God, you can't rely on people alone, without God, you can't do anything. | |

| I agree that it has to do with God. No matter how many people come and go through our lives...God is the only constant. People change all the time...but God is God to time indefinite. People can be so fake and insincere...and at some point you have to realize that the most important thing in life should not be about pleasing other people..but pleasing God. | |
