| ignorant?...opps did I say that... but really I love that...I never thought of the song as being about God but now that I think about it I think it may be...At first I thought it was maybe because he was sick of conforming to everyones expectations and finally he just gets sick of it and says screw it and its such a relief to not have to be like everybody else... I love it! this is definately my song. Have a nice day. | |

| to me it was like letting go of all the insecurities, the fears, the pains.... about learning to "feel okay"... and realizing that we all go through that. Also just because I'm a Christian, it made me think about how we can leave our burdens at Jesus' feet... but anyways, yeah, the song is like about letting go of all those painful shadows of the past the hold us down and make us feel inferior. | |

| This is my favourite Lifehouse song. "Cause everyone is looking Everyone is laughing But I think everyone feels the same Everybody wants to feel okay Everybody wants to Everybody wants to feel" That part of the song just rocks, especially live. I think Ashleigh is spot on with her interpretation, so I won't say anymore. | |

| Have you ever read pilgrims progress by Bunyan? This may be the namesake of Hugo's Quasimodo, but the other really dominant imagery fits in with Bunyan's character Christian and kind of fuses the two ideas. Since "Pilgrim's Progress" is an allegory Christian can be taken as any christian, and therefore the song being about God is quite plausible, and in fact I think probably the most effective interpretation of the entire song. Saying "Screw the world and their expectations" is the full explanation of the song lyrics seems just not to add up to everything present in the song. | |

| I love this song. it's like my positive outlook "you-can't-hurt-me" theme song. i could be crazed, but are some of the lyrics wrong? "Honesty won't be a pain that you will have to feel"? and "Because this feeling/THAT has no meaning"? like i said, i could be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time.. This song to me is just about a person who has faced many hardships, and been down and trod upon, attempted to be broken but can still say, "YOU CAN'T HURT ME! I DON'T NEED YOU!!" | |

| While I'm sure this isn't the intended interpritation of the song, it reminds me of freedom from slavery. I just read the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, and some of the connections are really strong. Think about it. "There goes my pain there goes my chains," ... "You can't change me you can't break me." | |

| I agree with the consensus that this is about breaking out of being the person others want you to be. Other people want you to conform to how they think you should be and they're scared you'll become your own person. This song is about somone who has taken it upon themselves to break out of that and do what they want and how it takes the weight off them and breaks the chains other people have put on them. I'm especially fond of the lines Does it scare you that I can Be something different than you Would it make you feel More comfortable if I wasn't It pretty much sums up the meaning there. Oh, and the interlude is basically saying, people can look and laugh, but it's something that deep down inside, they're all going through too, and the songwriter knows that. | |

| As we walk through life, so many people judge us and try to make us feel as though we are lesser than them. They try to bring us down in order for them to feel better about their own insecurities. The best words of this song I believe are.." everyone is looking, everyone is laughing but I think everyone feels the same... everyone wants to feel okay.." So many people live lies...and this song is about knowing yourself, and not being afraid to be who you are...it's about not changing for anyone else's sake, and when you just live...those chains just fall right off of your shoulders! | |

| I totally didnt see it that way ashleigh... but i know what youre saying. i think the speaker is saying that they are letting go of their chains- but its a process "I'm trapped inside of my own mind Afraid to open my eyes cause of what I'd find and I Don't wanna live like this anymore " And later in the song he brings the listener in by saying "Have you ever felt like your secrets give you away You're not alone I've been there too " I like the image the song gives you. the title implies a pathetic disfigured character but eventually the person is returned to his upright position | |

| To me, it means this: A person who you really cared about, is trying you in a way you aren't and you don't want to be. And it takes such strength to break away, but afterwards, you see that this person lied to you and controlled you. And i can feel this strength in it... might be wrong, but i had a few situations like these, so don't blame me ;) | |

| laurnie has a very good point. i am a christian and i never really looked at this song being about God, but now i'm kind of starting to see it. i do however totally believe that everything is about God, cause how can it be about a girl with that sort of power and movement in the song? ok anyways, back to this one, if you look at the first verse, "You can be right And I'll be real Oh, and it still won't be a pain That you will have to feel Cause I don't need your approval To find my worth..." it looks like its talking about how people in the world can be very judgmental and >whats the word i'm looking for... | |

| To me, this is a revenge song. It's when you've moved on, but you still care enough to sing to the person who broke your heart. At first it starts off as, "OK, whatever - you can be right...but I'll be for real." and it turns into, "Have you ever felt lost, hopeless? So have I, I feel your pain." and then it turns into, "Everyone wants to feel better when they're down. And I'm over you." (hence the lyrics, "THERE GOES MY PAIN, THERE GOES MY CHAINS." And last, but not least, the lyrics, "DID YOU SEE THEM FALLING?" sort of taunts the heartbreaker. | |

| Everyone gets something different out of lyrics but to me this song is about conformity and people wanting you to be what you're not. It's about breaking free of that and just telling everyone that you're an individual and there's nothing they can do about it. I love the line "Does it scare you that I can be something different from you." It's so true. People get terrified when you start to fall out of their ways and become your own person. Another great line is, "I don't need you approval to find my worth." I love it. It pretty much sums up everything exactly what I want to scream at some people in my life. Just let me do what I want. Let me find my worth on my own. So Good. | |

| This probably was said, but just not in these words, so i'll just say it myself. I think the point of this song is to say that his whole life, he was living a lie, and being someone else then who he really was. And he's just now starting to see that he can be who he is without your approval... like the last 2 lines of the first verse. And all of the chains and pains that he had from this lie are now going away, because he doesn't have to worry about living the lie anymore. And he asks if you can see them falling just to rub it in your face that he's finally making his own choices and decisions. And when it says everyone is looking and everyone is laughing but they all feel the same inside, he's going off of other people. He's not alone, and everyone who has ever been someone else then who they are just wants to feel okay. They strive so hard to fit in, because that's what everyone wants. No one wants to be the outsider. But he's saying to heck with it, i'm not going to live like that any more. And so finally, he can get the weight of the world off of his shoulders and finally be set free. | |

| the song is about anorexia speaking to someone, trying to lure them into the trap...this is especially seen in lines like "i do'nt need your approval" and "being trapped inside my mind"...eating disorders cage in the people suffering from them, and they don't care about what people think! | |

| This is by far my favorite lifehouse song. Let me explain what I think it means and why. I'm at a time in my life.. where I have for years been judged and held to a standard that no one should be held to. A standard that God himself wouldn't hold me to. It wasn't until the last year that I realized the people who were doing this.. judging me and putting me down.. were wrong. In a discussion I had with my friend.. I said "It makes me feel like i'm a quasi-christian, like I'm not whole.. not good enough for them.. but I don't have to live up to their approval" It wasn't until a couple of days ago that I was listening to No Name face.. and came across this song. No name face is my favorite lifehouse album.. but sometimes, I forget about it.. and then later revist it.. if you know what i mean.. So i rediscovered this song.. and feel that it is exactly my situation.. exactly how I feel. No matter what the main theme in this song is freedom. | |
