VERSE 1
A F#m
I was young but I wasn't naive
D
I watched helpless
E
As you turned around to leave
A F#m
And still I have the pain I have to carry
D
A past so deep
E D
That even you could not bury if you tried
CHORUS
A E
After all this time
D
never thought we'd be here
E
never thought we'd be here
A E
when my love for you was blind
D
But I couldn't make you see it
E
Couldn't make you see it
F#m D
That I loved you more
A E
Than you'll ever know
F#m D
And part of me died
A E
When I let you go
(AFTER THIS YOU REPEAT THE SAME PATRON)

Yeah, it makes a lot more sense to me if it's the dad. There aren't as many unanswered questions that way....

today i saw them live and he said it was about a relationship he faught for all his youth... um that doesnt sound like a girlfriend to me... the way he put it it sounded like his mother or father, i didnt know what song they were aobut to play when he was talking, but then they played this and it is most definitely about his father... sorry guys - it seems to be straight from the horses mouth...

I guess this song could be about his father, however, for me, this song has a totally different meaning. I think the first stanza's about his past, when he was younger, and had found the love of his life. Then she leaves him, and, feeling helpless, he simply stands back and lets her go. It's been a while since then, but he still carries the pain of his past with him. Second Stanza-I'm not quite sure...but I think he and the girl are talking about it all. He's amazed that they're talking about it after all the time that's passed since then. I think the second stanza reveals to us the reason why she left him-because she felt that he didn't love her (Never thought we'd be here when my love for you was blind). But he's telling her, no, it wasn't blind, that he had in fact loved her very much, more than she'll ever know, and that when she left, a part of him died too. He continues, in the third stanza, by saying that he'd fall asleep, hoping to dream of her. I don't really get the rest of the third stanza... After all this, why, would you ever wanna leave it? Maybe you could not believe it that my love for you was blind But I couldn't make you see it, couldn't make you see it That I loved you more than you'll ever know And part of me died when I let you go I think he's asking, after having said all this, would she still want to leave him? I think he's also kind of asking why, if she wanted to, would she want to. Then he's once again talking about the past, saying maybe she couldn't believe, then, that he loved her, and thought that his love was...well, blind. He tried to make her see that he loved her, that he loved her more than anything, but she never would accept it, and that when she left him, a part of him died. But yea...that's just what I think it means. I guess I tired as best as I could to explain it but yea...

yeah i dont really think its about his father . . . heres my break down of the song... "I was young, but I wasn't naive I watched helpless as you turned around to leave And still I have the pain I have to carry A past so deep that even you could not bury if you tried" even tho he was young he wasnt stupid, he was going thru some heavy stuff and he didnt want his gf to go thru it so when she left, he didnt stop her, but he still loves her "After all this time, I never thought we'd be here Never thought we'd be here when my love for you was blind But I couldn't make you see it, couldn't make you see it That I loved you more than you'll ever know And part of me died when I let you go" its been a while and he didnt think that he would still love her, he really did love her back then but he couldnt make her see it, and when he let her go he lost a part of his heart "I would fall asleep only in hopes of dreaming That everything would be like it was before But nights like this, it seems, are slowly fleeting They disappear as reality is crashing to the floor" plain and simple . . . he regrets it, he wants things to go back to the way they were but he knows that its not gonna happen, he lost his chance and reality for him is finally checking in

Yea I agree how it's probably about his father. He has spoken about his father more or less walked out on him. "Only One" from the first album was also written about his father. (Wade's interpretations of the songs from the 1st album) http://www.lifehousefans.com/lyrics/interpretations.html

This is my favorite song off the new CD...it's just amazing. I would assume this is going to be the second single. As for it's meaning... The first verse really sounds like he's talking about his father walking out on him early in his life. Now (many years later) he's in a relationship with a woman, but can't get close with her. He's reminded of the past when his father walked out on him and fears this girl will walk out on him just like his father. All this fear he has puts a strain on the relationship until they eventually break up. ...Or, it's just all about his father (which is the more likely scenario...but the last line in the chorus kind of makes me think this song is partly about a woman.) Then again, I've never been all that good at deciphering meanings...so I could be waay off. Either way, it's an amazing song.

I think that this song is about Jason's father. Part of it seems to be that he blames himself for his father leaving; for example, when he say "but I couldn't make you see it" - he seems to think that his father left because he didn't show enough love towards him. As for a general interpretation, this is how you might feel if someone you cared about deeply left you.

First of all, it could be about his dad, but I REALLY DON'T THINK SO..................Ok, what I think it means is this: When he says he was young but not naive, it just means that he was YOUNG in his day. He did not have a good grasp on relationships YET. He was helpless as 'she' turned to leave. NOW, he regrets that he let her go for the insecurities or personal problems that he had. Problems that were probably caused from something early in his life. He let her go but his LOVE FOR HER never died. Instead a part of him died when he let her go. He still loves her, but he feels that he had to let her go rather than HER go through his personal issues. He wishes things were like they were before, but HE realizes that THIS is the way it has to be, EVEN though it's as hard as anything he's had to go through. HE truly loves her with all his heart and he's gonna miss and cherish all the memories he shared with her. He may have not felt like he deserved her love. He may have had it BEAT into him all his life that he will never amount up to anything, NOW he can never think anyways, THAT could be why he let her go. BUT, he still loves her, he just may think she deserves someone more stable. MAYBE......................

You know what I think? You're gay. Anyways, I made my girlfriend listen to this song after she left me. (complicated story) Now I'm in the process of getting her back.

This song is by far the greatest song of all. The lyrics are indeed about Jason's father (majourly hinted by the video clip that goes with it). From what it looks like, his father was bringing home a new woman every day, or cheating on Jason's mum (pending on whether they were still married). Regardless, it looks like either Jason left, or was kicked out.
