| I think is song is incredibly awesome, co what if it's straight forward? Some things that try to add depth just end up in the gray area anyway. This reminds me so much of my life, I mean, my parents tell me they're fine with me and my grades, but I get an F, and they give me the "I'm dissapointed, we were straight A students. Why can't you be perfect? It's not like you don't have the genes for it." look. The music video was awesome too. Being ignored, by peers AND by a parent, who can't even tell if you're happy or not, it's cool. And it really happens to most people I know. For the people who don't like it, it's cool to have your opinions, but, I think it's pretty pointless to come on here time after time, just to say you don't like something. Same with coming again and again to praise something. It gets annoying. | |

| I agree with what most of the people on here have said, it is a good song, about being tired of living up the expectations of mother, father, girlfriend, boyfriend, teacher, etc. I think a lot of people here possibly just have too many issues with their parents, which they will get over with time. And I do agree that Linkin Park is not that great of a band. All of their songs follow a set formula and speak plainly rather than allowing different interpretations of the meanings. That is what makes songs 'good,' being able to view them in different ways, and allowing new audiences to interpret them as they see fit. As I said though, a good song. But as someone else noted, they are somewhat similar to NSync in that they are catering to the present generation by giving them what they want, instead of telling girls how pretty they are or whatnot, they are telling people, as many of you have interpreted it: you're parents are asses, don't do as they say. And with the teenage rebellious thing, that fits perfectly and sells. As I remember one of my friends saying "Linkin Park is hard rock for people who don't like their rock hard." It is not the same as so many other bands because it is catering to pop culture - I mean, they put a damn rapper in their band for that - they sing about this horrible pain that every teenager goes through at one point or another, and they even named their band Linkin Park so their CD's would be located next to Limp Bizkit (who was at the time they started a really popular band). They are persons who are out to make money rather than to make music, than that is why the band sucks. | |

| i love this song; to me, its about the burden of having to live up to someone else's expectations, but you will not. becoming "numb" means he no longer cares about this person whatsoever, and he will not live up to his/her expectations any longer. love this song, because although that is the ultimate meaning i got out of this song, i believe that it can be interpreted in many different ways. so, please, leave some comments =P (finally, a song's first comment will not be "this song is great." and left at that =P) | |

| this song reminds me of my mother... wanting me to be the perfect little daughter she always dreamed off.... not letting me be, making me feel like she's ashamed of me because i'm not like all the other little girls......... "Can't you see that you're smothering me... Holding too tightly Afraid to lose control 'Cause everything that you thought I would be Has fallen apart right in front of you" that verse and "But I know I may end up failing too .... But I know You were just like me With someone disappointed in you" remind me so much of my mother | |

| I agree with all of you. I, being the second oldest (and smartest) must always have the best grades of my family. I heard this song right when my grades were starting to drop and it honestly made me feel so fucking good...it was like Chaz and Mike were saying the things I don't have the guts to. But yeah, this song's about being sick and tired of being pushed around and being forced to do what you hate...being forced to accomplish what your tormentor can not. It could be about school, sports or even a job, but I personally see it as school. | |

| This song is kind of self-explanatory. It reminds me most of my parents. My mom pushes me to have the kind of relationships she's used to, instead of forming my own freaking relationship. And my dad, he'd just rather me quit something than push myself and get disappointed in the end (hmmm, ironic) anyway that's what I have to say about this song. Oh, and don't take this personally, mysugarhigh69, but you have some freaking issues. | |
