Ed is being quite literal here when he talks about the goddess. Several spiritual traditions believe in a mother god who is responsable for our souls seperating from the godhead to become individuals. She(whatever you call her: Sophia,Isis,Azna) is the emotional side of the godhead--she is unconditional love and the activater on earth. She is down here with her sword and righteous rage destroying negativity and bringing love;she is the one who fights for us. Ed is dreaming of a time when the goddess can finally rest because the demons(evil/negativity) are finally driven out and we can finally be at peace,no more rebirth-"karmic ocean dried up and leave no trace". He's been around the world and experienced different religions/spiritual beliefs and just life in general but it took the goddess to show him that love is all that matters. He/we will be at peace and feel real love. He wants to dance with our mother goddess, feel her real love, celebrate the end of earthly pain. The stars that change our mind and lead us back to a world we would not face--we don't remember our real home,in this altered state, and we don't want to face it but somehow we all will come to face it, the love will bring us back. Let's be real love and honor our Mother; Let's dance together.

in my opinion, this song is sang partly from a third person's perspective. I think that the first verse is about a woman whose loved one passed away and she was all alone with her pain, but finally she died too and now they are together in heaven. That's where God gomes into the picture. The singer is also so torn and restless, unable to find any peace, his place, in this grazy world and he is searching for God. He sees the life he wants, he has a vision, but whatever he does he can't reach it. He wants his Lord to teach him how to really, REALLY, live.

i believe it deals with true peace within ones self, like meditation. but i also believe it is describing love for another. it's so powerful and true. its kinda hard to contain your emotions. anyway, this song makes me cry.

when i hear this song i think he's talking about a lover who left him or died....becuz he'sdreaming and his goddess finally sleeps, all he wants to do is be with her and the stars bring him back to a place he doesn't want to be, it's depressing but i love it

The 'Karmic Ocean' part!! I was JUST wondering the same thing. I though it might be a big ocean, like a real physical one, but it isn't! The only thing 'google' knew about Karmic Oceans was these lyrics! So I have no idea really. But what ever it is, it must be gone "dried up" and has left no trace! I really like the: And I been around the world and I've tasted all the wines a half a billion times came sickened to your shores you show me what this life is for What ever it is, a woman or meditating, it has/ is the answer to everything. He has searched the world for it, but the answer is simple. She/ it IS the answer!! I want the answer! Maybe I should meditate!

If anyone can overwhelming deny my view, please do so, but i believe that the line "tasted all the wines a half a billion times came sickened to your shores you show me what this life is for" means that he left church (where during communion wine is consumed) after so long, and that he found peace and inner contentment at the shores of another thought or belief. In this case, eastern religion, as rtplease thought.

Every time i listen to this song, i feel an incredible peace of mind and a strange connection to the universe. It's just so beautiful. Just picture this, you and your couple alone in the night facing the stars and listening to this song. What a perfect way to fall in love. me thinks.
