Dsus2 E Dsus2 E
Al-----ways fighting the storm
Afraid to suffer the wound
All praise to that conscious one
Who always suffers the wound, child
Suffers the wound, child

G D/F# E
Hey
Suffers the wound
Never turns from love
Give it up

Dsus2 E Dsus2 E
Al-----ways try to explain
Afraid to lay naked in the sun
He's crazy, she dances in the light
The crowd jeers, they won't put up a fight

Hey...

C A
Until my heart is free to roam, she won't never leave me alone
G D/F# E
Saved by the river now
Saved

[Dsus2] [E] (4x)

Dsus2 E Dsus2 E
Al-----ways fighting the storm
Buildin' shelter to house our lack of love
We're only here for a while
Tear it down and suffer the wound

Hey...
Until my heart... (Never turns from love, never turns to hate)

C A
Until my heart is free to roam, she won't never leave me
G D/F# E G D/F# E
Never turns from love, never turns to hate

[E] [E] [Cmaj7] [Asus2]

E
Always suffers the wound
Cmaj7
Never turns from love
Asus2
Never turns to hate (Saved by the river now) (2x)

E
An invisible mississippi, ganges or a nile
Cmaj7 Asus2
I can feel the quiet river rage, forcin' my lips into a smile
E
Don't believe that the world is empty, just too noisy to hear the sound
Cmaj7 Asus2
I can feel the quiet river rage, and I'm fallin' down, saved by the river now

[E] [E] [Cmaj7] [Asus2]
(Repeat many times 'till fadeout with random "Saved by the river now" and "Never turns
from love" lyrics)

Anyone ever seen the movie Sin City? This song kind of reminds me of the relationship between Merv and Goldie. She just kind of showed up, and gave him love no questions asked, but she had other motives behind it. Don't ask me why I just always think of that. I agree that musically it's not the best, but on fansoflive.com there's a new version where the guitars have heavier distortion, it sounds 100 times better than the original. Almost sounds like something from the Distance to Here.

Okay, so entertain this: We are all sinners and have been torn apart by this world. So God says, "Child, come here and I will restore you. I will cleanse you." Eh? Whatcha think? I'm thinking that THAT is the deeper meaning.

love it! lyrics are beautiful, however it's too mellow to pass for hard-core live material. it was hard for me to believe it was a live song when i first heard it, if not for ed's vocals. love where he goes' oh baby..' and yeah id agree. there's definitely sexual undertones in the song.

I think this song is talking about the pain a peaceful person deals with because they don't want to "turn to hate." I like katox's view though and it doesn't really matter which view is correct (katox's makes more sense). What matters is the power behind this song. You can hear the emotion Ed puts into this song and I love it. Ed is saying that we are not going to be on this Earth forever so show some love.

But does this song end with just a "sex-meaning"? I mean, Dolphin's Cry was deeper than just "sex on a beach". Couldn't this song maybe also be about coming to God and giving up your burning skin for healing? I hear how it could be. I'm not saying that it is, but I do think that Ed tries to present double-meanings in a lot of his songs. You know, on the outside, there's something everyone can relate to. But deeper in the lyrics, he's talking about something that's very important to him...I don't know, just a thought...

"I can feel the quiet river rage forcin' my lips into a smile don't believe that the world is empty just too noisy to hear the sound " I think that this is about the "river" of energy some people believe surrounds us all. It is said that if one can feel this energy, it brings peace to the that person. That's what I think the quiet river is. When he says that it's too noisy to hear the sound, he's talking about the constant through process occurring in most of our minds. This incessant thinking is mental noise, and it distracts a peson from living in the moment and feeling this quiet river. When I listen to this album, I believe most of the album is about this sort of thing.
