Dance With My Father
Luther Vandross
Intro: Bb F Gm Eb
Bb F Gm F Bb
Back when I was a child, before life removed all the innocence
Bb Dm Eb F Bb
My father would lift me high and dance with my mother and me and then
Bb Eb
Spin me around 'til I fell asleep
Cm Bb
Then up the stairs he would carry me
Cm F
And I knew for sure I was loved
Bb Dm Gm Eb
If I could get another chance, another walk, another dance with him
Cm Gm
I'd play a song that would never, ever end
Cm
How I'd love, love, love
F Bb
To dance with my father again
Bb F Gm Eb
Bb F
When I and my mother would disagree
Gm F Bb
To get my way, I would run from her to him
Bb Dm
He'd make me laugh just to comfort me
Eb F Bb
Then finally make me do just what my mama said
Bb Eb
Later that night when I was asleep
Cm Bb
He left a dollar under my sheet
Cm F
Never dreamed that he would be gone from me
Bb Dm Gm Eb
If I could steal one final glance, one final step, one final dance with him
Cm Gm
I'd play a song that would never, ever end
Cm
'Cause I'd love, love, love
F Bb
To dance with my father again
Eb F
Sometimes I'd listen outside her door
Bb Gm
And I'd hear how my mother cried for him
Eb F
I pray for her even more than me
Eb F
I pray for her even more than me
Bb F Gm Eb
!!!!!Change in key from Bb to C!!!!!
C G
I know I'm praying for much too much
Am F
But could you send back the only man she loved

| buh, this song makes me cry...because, I still have my father in my life, but he's hurting me and people I love a lot. This song brings back memories of when I was younger; I was ignorent to the things my dad does that, at this moment, hurt me so much. When I read comments of people who lost their dad I feel really guilty for hating him the way I do and wish that things could just be like they were when I was younger..*sigh* hmm... | |

| Next month it would have been 3 years since i lost my father and were Vandross sings "When I and my mother would disagree To get my way, I would run from her to him He'd make me laugh just to comfort me Then finally make me do just what my mama said" is exactly the same as what happened in my life when i was small he was always the nice one and she was the disciplinarian (if i spelt that right) Whenever i listen to this i have to hold back the tears in my ears Luther Vandross - R.I.P | |

| My parents divorced seven years ago. two years ago, after moving across the country and not seeing me in a year, my dad got me there for his wedding. Me and him danced to this song at the wedding. At the time, I thought it was stupid to dance with him at HIS wedding and took it for granted. Now, I wish I never did. I slap myself for that everytime I hear this song. And when I get married, me and him want to dance to that exact same song. | |

| Music-Guy I have absolutely have no idea how you hold back the tears. I was on a trip to Hong Kong with my father, we listened to this on my Ipod. English is a second language to him so I had to explain the lyrics before I played it for him. While we were both listening to this, he looked at me and tears were rushing down my face (they are when I am typing this too) and then he started to cry too. I will never in my life forget that moment. This is top5 of most beautiful songs ever. | |

| I just love this song! Although I haven't lost my father, I still cried when I heard this song because at the time my parents had just divorced and I was living with my mom, and I heard this song and thought it was the sweetest thing ever. Luther Vandross is a very talented guy and just for the record, I hope he gets better. | |

| I am soo extremely fortunate to still have my father, although one of my best- friends lost hers yesterday. This song is absolutely killing me right now but I can't seem to turn it off. I was there today with her and her mother and they were both devastated and my heart is breaking for them right now. This song is just beautiful. It's not OTT but is simply stating how much he loved his father. I love it. | |

| This is a beautiful song. My father is getting old now, so the song teaches me to appreciate as much as I can while he is still on this earth. It will probably express my exact feelings if (when) that day comes. Although I am no cry baby, this is definitely one song where I have to fight to hold back tears for the inevitable. | |
