I could be wrong, but the fact that Rob Flynn has admitted that Metallica were a huge influence to him, makes me think that this song is (at least in part) his way of 'tipping his hat' to Metallica's "Sad but true", being that both are about the negative side of the human psyche.

yeah,it's great...and it's realy common with "sad but true"...however the song (in my opinion) is how man posses self-destructive nature but still can't realize it, can't even live with himself. The song "All in your head" has also this kind of meaning.

Machine Head is so f*cking tight. Great band that doesn't get enough recognition. Amazing song, about someone that runs everything i their life. Probably trying not to let people get too close. Just my opinion. Right on!!!

this song is about the voices that talk crap about you inside your head. When ever your really frustrated and can't control your anger this is what happens to you

On the live version of this song, Rob starts off talking about the song. He is saying about how he wrote the song when he was \"so pissed off at the world that day\". He talks about a voice in his head saying how it was \"making me want to be mad, fuck up and self-destruct\" and he was the only one who thought these thoughts and alone in the world, but he knows his fans are with him
