| I agree with mojorisin I'm positive Layne killed himself. The addiction was killing him and he was really sick, probably the same reason cobain killed himself. He took a combination of coke and heroin, i think he knew the outcome. | |

| To FellONblACKdayS: It isn't proven that he died on the same day as Kurt Cobain, it is just speculated from the state of his decay. | |

| WWake up young man, it's time to wake up Your love affair has got to go For 10 long years, for 10 long years The leaves to rake up Slow suicide's no way to go," Is it me or is this verse prophetic? slow suicide was the way layne went... | |

| This song is so beautiful and yet so hard to listen to. Layne is speaking to himself admitting he has a problem and he needs to do something about it. To think about the lyrics of this song is so damn sad. | |

| i agree with Ice about Layne's voice, you not olny hear it but you can feel it. i think that Wake Up had a few meanings, one of them being stuck in a place in life and trying to get out. you've been there long enough and the time to go is passing. | |

| Anyone that has had any kind of addiction to ANYTHING can totally relate to this song. I love this song and the way it flows. Some people think that Layne was telling them to go do drugs but in fact he was doing the opposite. I remember an article I read last night about how he did an AiC show and someone came up to him and gave him the thumbs up because he was high and Layne said that's not what he wanted to happen. And Drugs are shit. Trust me I know.. | |

| This song is so powerful... just think, they even had it played on his funeral. Layne just wanted everyone to learn from his experiences, and "wake up" from the illusion that you can escape an addiction. Everybody who is stupid enough to do drugs should listen to this song, and be ashamed of themselves if they still call themselves good Alice in Chains or Mad Season fans. WAKE UP! | |

| "The cracks and lines from where you gave up, they make an easy man to read" probably refers to the scars left on his body by heroin use. Every time he tried to stop using people would judge him by those. I guess this made it even harder for him because everyone only saw him as a hapless junkie and it's hard to change on your own when people see you as only that. | |

| Anyone who listens to Alice in Chains knows what I mean when I say you can just feel how much Layne is in to his music by how he sounds and he shows that in this song especially. To bad he died, the music he has been associated with has always been some of my favorite and he will be missed. | |

| It's very unfortunate that he never got over his heroin addiction, since he died 3 years ago. And that Mad Season was very short-lived. After this album, he and Alice in Chains did 'Unplugged in New York' in '96. I'm guessing that was one of his last public experiences. Ironically, he died the same day Kurt cobain, one of my other rock idols, died partly of a heroin overdose, (besides the gun shot wound. without the wound, kurt would have died anyway) God bless Mad Season | |
