| In terms of meaning/interpretation, this is my favorite of Madonna's songs. I heard an interview w/ her when this song was originally released and she stated it's about a breakup...how the person you thought you knew so well during the relationship turns out to just be a beautiful stranger by the end. They look the same -- "beautiful" -- but you no longer *know* them by the time of the breakup -- "stranger." I relate to this song every time I go through a breakup, whether romantic or just friendship. People become such "strangers" when it's time to sever ties. | |

| This is a very "groovy", Austin Powers, 60-ish song, and it puts me in this happy, hippy mood, for some reason. i love the lyrics. They are so cute.. and her voice sounds amazing!! It's very real, too. I can feel that "Beautiful Stranger" s--t, like when you had those couple of crushes in high school... it justs kinda puts this song in your head. Phat-ass song! | |

| I recall reading somewhere that this song was inspired by Andy Bird, one of Madonna's boyfriends in between Carlos Leon and Guy Ritchie. The line "I paid for you with tears / and swallowed all my pride" was particularly meant about him, I believe. | |
