Easy Ride (Madonna: American Life)
··•·••··•··•·••··•·••··•·••··•·••·
Am E Am E
I want the good life • But I don't want an easy ride
G F
What I want is to work for it
G F
Feel the blood and sweat on my fingertips
E Am
That's what I want for me
Am E Am E
I want to know everything • Maybe someday I will
G F
What I want is to find my place
G F
Breathe the air and feel the sun on my children's face
E
That's what I want
Am G Am G
I go round and round just like a circle
Am G F
I can see a clearer picture
Am G Am G
When I touch the ground I come full circle
Am G F
To my place and I am home
Am
I am home
Am E Am E
I want to let go of all disappointment that's waiting for me
G F
What I want is to live forever
G F
Not defined by time and space, it's a lonely place
E
That's what I want
Am G Am G
I go round and round just like a circle
Am G F
I can see a clearer picture
Am G Am G
When I touch the ground I come full circle
Am G F
To my place and I am home
Am
I am home
Am G Am G
I go round and round just like a circle
Am G F
I can see a clearer picture
Am G Am G
When I touch the ground I come full circle
Am G F
To my place and I am home
Am
I am home

| I love this song...can't believe no one has commented on it...while I think the arrangement and production is one of madonna's/mirwais finest (the strings! the electro twisted part at the end!) as this site is about lyrics I'll talk about them.... this is obviously about madonna's notorious ambition but also about her spiritual beliefs (not sure what religious tip she was on when she wrote this but it seems to be quite buddist with ideas about life being a circle - like karma, maybe this is also an aspect of the kabbala). I love the line 'not defined by time and space, it's a lonely place'. Here I think she is talking about a few things, how firstly, every aspect of human exisitence is culturally and historically specific, so madonna doesn't want this for herself, as in she is some how different to everyone else. I also think she is making reference to how critics are concerned with madonna as latching onto current trends - here she says she is above all that! | |
