ADimeADexter, I've read three Mae songs in which you've posted the lyrics and all three have had major alterations to the correct lines. Why were you so rushed to post these?? Anyway, on line 17 ADimeADexter wrote: "A light that cant reach at all" The correct line is: "A light that CAN reach IT all" As you can see when you change "can't" to "can" and "at" to "it" it completely changes up the meaning to the line. btw "skys" is spelled "skies" Does the long ending to this song remind anyone else of "Skyline Drive" from their "Destination: Beautiful" release? ...and it was pure genius at the end for Mae to add in the last two lines: "So when you say forever Can't you see you've already captured me?" ...just when you thought they were done singing.

This song is about memories and how they guide people to whatever destination they're seeking. "The pictures you took That cover your room And it was just like the sun But more like the moon" The pictures are the memories that guide people just like how the Sun and the Moon guide everything. Memories are "all we have"

Ok, honestly, people need to stop relating this incredible band to God. I don't know about anyone else, but it's just irritating when I'm trying to look for the meaning of a song or lyrics I get bombarded with God and Jesus. As George Carlin said, "KEEP RELIGION TO YOURSELF!" Moving on, incredible song.

alright guys. here's the thing. i think everyone is entitled to their own opinions about what a song means. there's no need to ARGUE about it or tell everyone that your interpretation is the one and only. i think that's why artists don't come right out anf say what every song means. there's so many different ways for people to relate to the same song, and that's the beauty of it. what mae meant with the lyrics of their songs might be a bit different than what some people get out of it. and that's okay. music is different for everyone and there doesn't have to be one single meaning to a song that everyone has to believe. the point of this site is for people to express what they get from the song...and sometimes that sparks something in someone else. don't judge people if what they get out of a song is different from what you feel. :) but i do think we all agree that mae is just wonderful. everything about their music is beautiful... their lyrics have the ability to reach the very core of my soul--it's genious.

this song is about not living up to your maxim of being a Christian. it's about making your own problems for yourself when everything would stop if you would just give it to God. Destination's Beautiful is about the great things God has for us if we would claim them. maybe it even means heaven. the Sun is a metaphor for the Son: Jesus. read it again with that in mind.

I agree with RachelAFS. I think it's a God song. I try to think of the 'iffy' ones as God ones though, it always makes them have more meaning. "And all that I have is yours All that i am is yours" "So when you say forever Can't you see you've already captured me?" those just clinch the Christian meaning for me personally. I also agree with QQoicu2 about how it can be interpretated different ways and we shouldn't be at each other's throats about a good song. (Don't agree about the acid comment, pretty funny though. haha.)

I don't see how anything in The Everglow could be related to God merely because of the fact of what the everglow is. I'm sure there could be some ambigity but I don't think that was the intention of the band. Just my opinion though, you would have to ask them. As of now I'm a bit lost to the story. Seems I should give it more time and effort. And to julia- when I read your comment I thought of the starting line song "Surprise, Surprise" and the line 'omg let me discribe to you this guy he's in this band that writes such awful songs about me all the time-You're God damn right!' Yeah I love that song and line. ~

This song, placed at the end of the "journey", leads me to believe the girl the character has been courting all this time, has a baby with, and maybe eventually marries has died. He regrets any wasted time while they were together while he admits to being caught off guard by her sudden departure. It is a sweet song of love and commitment... and happy memories of life spent together.

so i deffinetly think this song is about peoples relationships with god. heres an in depth description of what i think the lyrics mean..... "I'm a mess I guess It's what I've asked for, It's what I've needed" this refers to how christians fall away from god and become a mess without him...but they pretty much ask for it by falling away from him. and christians need this to build a stronger relationship with god "Well, you know me better than that Or at least you did then something happened But once again something's happened " this is also talking about falling away from god. its saying that god and him used to have a really strong relationship...then something happened (him falling away from god) and its happening again The confidence you held in us Was the rope we almost hung ourselves with At times I wonder if we really took the steps to break right through it this is talking about how we blindly do wrong as christians because we are thinking that god will forgive us and always love us no matter what....so we're taking the confidence he has in us for granted I know that there were better days But to see the light and to feel the rays Life was always back and forth and we were idling or making useless progress this is saying how we have times when we are good with god and we feel the joy that he is always sending down....but life isnt always like that becuase we're either sitting around and not trying to communicate with god (idiling) or trying but its going nowhere because our hearts arent in the right place (useless progress) Waiting for the rain to stop Destination: beautiful Seems that I'm still waiting for the sun this is what music man was saying about destination beautiful....its saying hes waiting for the chance to see all the beautiful things god has done Someday will come back to us If you're willing let it go Why won't you just let this be your sun? this is saying how one day we will get it and finally be able to keeo a steady relationship with god. "if you're willing let it go" means if you're willing to have a relationship with god you have to let everything else go, if you dont then you wont be able to completely trust in god It seems like yesterday we had the world our way But some say we're headed for destruction even though we may think we are where we're supposed to be with god we still arent there yet.... I'll ask you "what in the world should we do?" The light is green, our break is through Are we not trying or we're trying too hard? this is saying how we dont really know how to become close to god at times, and it feels like we're not even trying...or perhaps trying too hard When time stands still as it's trapped inside the letterbox you gave back to me But I'm the one who keeps on reading But I'm the one who wants to let it go I'm the first to speak and you're the last to know Another scene that we're creating I need to know if we're still making useless progress this refers to how we constantly hear gods word but we really just dont want to hear it. we'd rather be off doing our own thing. so yea...i might be wrong about what this song means...but that makes sense to me so thats what im going with

"But I'm the one who keeps on reading But I'm the one who wants to let it go" I think these are the best lyrics of this song. They're saying that this guy wants to be free of the pain he's feeling, but he can't keep himself from reliving all the memories. The piano at the end of this song is so beautiful, I wish the sheet music for it was available. This is one of my favorites.

well this song is definately about some relationship that isnt going somewhere or anywhere. the girl in the 'story' is stuck in a mess. And this mess seems to me to be her feelings, she doesn't know whether to let it go or keep on trying. But if she keeps on trying, she knows that it's probably useless and heading nowhere again. I can relate to this song, and i like it.

I think this song is talking about a relationship with God: The first stanza is like saying how he wasted so much time b/c he wasnt ready for it, but when it happens it all comes together and everything he has is actually God's. The second stanza is talking about he's seen so many beautiful things but nothing compares to God, and everything he saw was a reflection of God (the moon reflects the sun's light) and at the end where it says "So now im branded for taking the fall" I believe it means that he took the chance and now he's forever known for the choice he made to follow God. And the very last thing he says is pretty easy to understand. He is God's forever. I could be completely wrong on what I believe BUT you dont need to bash my opinion. I love this song its really pretty and I even want it as my wedding song ^.^

I think "Sun" has to do about a rocky friendship. "It's what I've asked for, It's what I've needed Well, you know me better than that Or at least you did then something happened But once again something's happened " Anyway, I was listening to this song when one of my friends whom I trusted with my heart decided to go bad and I began to cry. It was that good. :[

It's funny, all of Mae's slow stuff, on first listen, I say, "This sucks." But, after a second listen of really contemplating these songs, they become my favorites; i.e., Skyline Drive, The Ocean, Giving It Away (kinda). I'm still trying to figure out what his analogies means for the sun and the moon. The moon reflects the original light from the sun. If this is a song about God, maybe he's saying that he hasn't yet seen God, just his reflections in the word, in Jesus. Or, if it's not about God, he could just mean that the pictures are just reflections, or something. Awesome song.

this song is about not living up to your maxim of being a Christian. it's about making your own problems for yourself when everything would stop if you would just give it to God.

(Don't agree about the acid comment, pretty funny though. haha.)

well this song is definately about some relationship that isnt going somewhere or anywhere. the girl in the 'story' is stuck in a mess. And this mess seems to me to be her feelings, she doesn't know whether to let it go or keep on trying. But if she keeps on trying, she knows that it's probably useless and heading nowhere again. I can relate to this song, and i like it.

so i deffinetly think this song is about peoples relationships with god. heres an in depth description of what i think the lyrics mean..... I'll ask you "what in the world should we do?" The light is green, our break is through Are we not trying or we're trying too hard? this is saying how we dont really know how to become close to god at times, and it feels like we're not even trying...or perhaps trying too hard When time stands still as it's trapped inside the letterbox you gave back to me But I'm the one who keeps on reading But I'm the one who wants to let it go I'm the first to speak and you're the last to know Another scene that we're creating I need to know if we're still making useless progress this refers to how we constantly hear gods word but we really just dont want to hear it. we'd rather be off doing our own thing. so yea...i might be wrong about what this song means...but that makes sense to me so thats what im going with

this song is like an emo version of boy bands. with all the harmonizing and the piano and the fairly subtle drum machine and the sporadic little guitar parts, it's very reminiscent of MTV in 1997. But a million times better. just slightly comperable.
