Extraordinary - Mandy Moore

Tuning: Standard
I've always been a big Mandy Moore fan and this is the first song off her new record
Wild Hope (which came out yesterday). Its really good and you should pick it up! The first
even has a guitar solo in it. Yes, a guitar solo in a Mandy Moore song, could it get any better?
Basically the whole song is in D Major. For the intro and verses, strum a D chord and
at the end of each measure they play G-G-G-G-D-Dsus2 then back to D. For the chorus, it
from a G to an A chord.
D XX0232
G 320033
Dsus2 xx0230
A x02220
D D
I was a daydream, quite and unseen
(G-G-G-G-D-Dsus2)
I lived in stories but inside I kept a mystery
D D
I was a starling, nobody's darling
G-G G G D Dsus2
Flying in perfect circles just for com - pa - ny
Chorus
G A
And now I'm ready
G A
And now I'm ready
G A
And now I'm ready
G
to be.....Extraordinary
The solo's short, and not too hard, it took me a while to figure out, but I'm almost
this is it.
SOLO: D Major
e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|----8/10-----7-------------------------------------------------------------|
G|-----------------9p7--------------7------------------7-----7---------------|
D|-----------------------9p7-----------------------7h9-----------------------|
A|-----------------------------10--------9--9--------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
e|---------------------------------------------------12---14-----------------|
B|---------10-----------12p10-----10--12--------12---------------------------|
G|----9/11----------11---------11--------------------------------------------|
D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
e|--14h15--15--15---14----11/12----10-------7--------------------------------|
B|--15-----15--15---15----11/12----10-------8--------------------------------|
G|-----------------------------------------(7)-------------------------------|
D|-----------------------------------------(9)-------------------------------|
A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
Then the "bridge" after the solo is the same chords as the chorus. Then the chorus a
times and you're done.
Well thats how I play it. One more thing; on the verses I'm pretty sure he slides up to
E chord at some point(move the D chord up two frets) but not exactly sure where or when.
you can mess around with that if you want, i think it sounds fine either way.
Again this is Extraordinary off of Mandy Moore's Cd Wild Hope. Shes kind of a guilty
of mine, lol. Her new cd is kinda stepping away from the poppy stuff and going towards more
a folky/hippie vibe which is cool. They are even comparing her to Sarah McLaughlin and
amazing Joni Mitchell. Enjoy.

Here's what Mandy Moore says about this song: "There are times when everyone hits a point of wanting and knowing they can go beyond what they deem their limits to be. Personally, it took me a while to come to this conclusion and it was quite a bold move for me to make. I consider myself to be pretty shy and have trouble expressing myself in certain situations, so writing this song is one of the most honest, humble things I have ever done and said in my life. To anyone. It felt as good to sing it as it did to write it."

CORRECT LYRICS: I was a bay tree Quiet and unseen I lived in stories but inside I kept a mystery I was a starling Nobody's darling Flying in perfect circles just for company And now I'm ready, and now I'm ready And now I'm ready to be extraordinary A midnight airplane A window glowing I know I am another sparkle in the sky I shine uncovered Still undiscovered But you might see me in the corner of your eye And now I'm ready, and now I'm ready And now I'm ready to be extraordinary Wakin' up to a wake on Sundays I am my own parade Stoppin' off at a sidewalk cafe Wind is playin' in the trees Kicking up confetti leaves Sings as if it's all to say And now I'm ready, yeah now I'm ready And now I'm ready to be extraordinary And now I'm ready, and now I'm ready And now I'm ready to be extraordinary Extraordinary

I just found out that this song was co-written by The Weepies. It's definitely the same whimsical, hopeful style, which probably explains why I like it even though I am not a huge Mandy Moore fan.
