"The world lances youth's lamb-like winter, winter" Such a creepy statement... what does it mean?

'Come and walk down memory lane No one sees a thing but they can pretend' This is a simultaneous reference to the way the holocaust is treated like entertainment on TV ('memory lane',- it sounds like pleasant nostalgia!) and the sheer idiotic blindness of a holocaust denier.

richey was reading five books a week at the time and was suffering from nervous exhaustion, so I'm not sure what hope we have! I thought it was a reference to the culling of the young by the Nazis, robbing them of the 'winter' of their lives, but it's a shot in the dark. 'The world' reminds us that we're not whiter than white, that we're not so different from the Nazis. Love the line: 'But so mediocre when there's no air, no light and no hope' - a reference to the gas chambers? Also relevant, in a wider, figurative sense, to modern life?
