| I wouldn't look to much in to this song. It is totally opium induced, it doesn't have to make sense or have some wonderful meaning. Everything on opium is wonderful and doesn't have to make sense to make you happy, at least until your coming down. Just read Kubla Khan. | |

| marcy playground's self titled album is the most underrated cd of all time. it is completely unfair that when i ask anyone if theyve heard of this band, they reply with "oh yeah, they sing that weird song sex and candy dont they". these guys should be the biggest band in the world purely because of that album. | |

| I won't claim this song is about Kurt Cobain, as it seems everyone tries to claim about every song. Opium and herion are different substances, but very similar in their effects. Opium is a mix of many naturaly occuring opiates, while herion is synthesised from morphine, a naturally occuring opiate present in raw opium. Not all opiates are the same in their effects, but herion and raw opium seem to be on the more pleasurable side of the opiate spectrum. Sorry to ramble there. | |

| Really sad song. What I get out of it is something (opium) making him feel good, or making things seem okay...but that last line....about seizures...sends chills up my spine. great song. | |

| When I hear Opium I play a scene in my head of this guy blissfully fucked up on opium, mind completely at ease, everything happy and perfect in that gloriously superficial and temporary way only drugs can provide... Then when the "Mom" part comes, it seems to me like in the middle of everything he thinks back to his mother and his childhood, regrets what he's become and feels completely hopeless. When it gets to that part of the song it really takes every bit of my strength to not burst into tears.. maybe I just created that mental slideshow to accompany my thoughts on my own life in relation to that song... but isn't that what interpreting music is all about? | |

| I am on complete agreement with everything xoveranalyticalx said. And agree with everyone who said Marcy Playground is underrated, because it's every true. I love in the beginning how it sounds like he took a deep breath. It's the feeling of the song that I love. | |

| This is a bit like Pink Floyd, it actually reminds me of "Comfortably Numb" which is my favorite Pink Floyd song. Which is weird, in a way, how it's my favorite, that I won't explain. But, the "I'm so happy part" sounds somewhat like the begining of the chorus... And just the whole depressive mood with a bit of relaxation/bliss underneath it. -Mariah | |

| This whole record is really great. I agree with everyone that "Sex and Candy" was overplayed. This is my favorite song off the album. It slays me when he sings "mom". Maybe he feels really lost and he thinks of his mother. | |

| This song is the shiz. I agree with anyone who says that Marcy Playground got cheated out of a good career when MTV decided to over-over play their song "Sex and Candy". | |

| this song is like, when you're so happy, that is sorta cancels out...I personally have never done opium, but you know when you're so happy, that you're really calm? like, you're not all excited, you're just totally calm. is that the feeling you get when you do opium? and this song does remind me of pink floyd, alot. it's like the modern day stoner band. this song reminds me of "fat old sun", by pink floyd, on atom heart mother, because during fat old sun they have a part that just bursts out guitars...it gives me the chills. absolutly love marcy playground, and in a way, i might be sorta glad that sex & candy was popular, because otherwise i wouldn't have gotten into marcy playground | |

| Blue like water Blue like heaven is all of the time -The drugs make him happy, but the addiction makes him melancholic I'm all right I'm just gagging on all the all right -He's alright from the high but the addiction is causing so many problems in his life. I'm so happy So happy I'm in heaven Yeah heaven -When he's high he doesn't feel the pain the addiction itself causes him. He feels nothing but Euphoria. Oh the season's come for opium -It's time to go get high to dumb the pain Mom...mom Mom...mom -This seems almost like a cry for help. Moms are always there to pick you up when you fall. (most of the time) Maybe this is a cry for help to escape the addiction. Or maybe from the withdrawls from the drug. It also could be the pain he feels. I'm so happy So happy I'm in heaven Yeah heaven -Temporarily distarcted from the pain by the euphoria induced by opium Oh the seizures come from opium -The thing that numbs his pain shakes up his life. Or maybe the withdrawls causing him problems. | |

| Sex & Candy was good before it was played 5,000 times. I wouldn't have bought their CD except that my friend's sister was always playing it and I got sort of hooked after a few visits... | |

| this might very well be one of my favourite songs. i agree with whoever used the word 'chilling', especially now that i've also realized the last line says seizures. rather than a repeat of seasons. Woz's mellow, soothing voice, adds graciously to the effect of this song... | |

| I agree Marcy Playgrounds self titled is one of my favorites of all time, however its success as well as downfall was from the success of sex and candy. I believe that the band talked about not includeing this single on their debut cd because it would take away from the other songs, which it did for most people. Anyway I think this song is about being depressed, and using drugs ( in this case opium ) to get through your depression, until the side effects start to take effect... | |

| Kurt Cobain was not addicted to opium, he was addicted to heroin. They are two different substances. Also, the song is not about Cobain's addiction. It is about opium. | |
