| I believe he's using the song to say that the world is becoming more and more plastic, more synthetic by the minute. By saying we were neurophobic and perfect, the day that we lost our souls he means to be perfect is to be inhuman, or without a soul. If we cry we wil rust is a metaphor used to describe us as mechanical and we cannot feel or express emotions, otherwise it will destroy this 'perfection'. And I was the hand grenade that never stopped exploding is referring to his heart continuing to beat, continuing to be human in this plastic world. Also in the line of you were automatic, he means someone he loves, but they are just like the rest, and he'll never be the one for her because he is different and noone else will be anything to her because they are just like her. The phrase is phenobarbidoll (I believe it is spelled this way so as the company can't charge him for their trademark, but I think he got his point through easy enough), referring to the person as a drug-induced girl, perfect, tame, and plastic like the doll itself. A manniqueen of depression with the face of a dead star. And on the lines, I'm just a boy, playing the suicide king is explaining the fact that he's small, like a boy, but can control everything because he knows what is happening around him and he's keeping himself from becoming the same. | |

| I remember reading an interview with him. He said something about the whole album being about how people are just becoming reactive, like animals, about how we're just following what we see. But at the same time, we're completely mechanical, just doing what we're supposed to, not really feeling it at all. I think this song is a little ironic, because while the media sees him as completely without emotion, it's pretty obvious that this song is full of the stuff. It seems to me like there's a lot of loneliness here, it's an incredibly sad song. It sounds like he feels very alone, like he's the only one that can feel anything, that he's just standing and watching all of these mechanical animals. | |

| this song shows that no one has to conform to bullshit in life that is fed to u by the media, ur parents etc.. and u dont have to follow what everybody else does. that guys dad who "instantly" blamed Marilyn for his son commiting suicide did what everyone else does. finds a scapegoat, and that had to be the gr8est artist on Earth. like they did the same thing with Ozzy Ozbourne when hiz "suicide solution" song came out. its all a loada crap and thats why Marilyn Manson sings about ti | |

| im replying to "i feel sick" post your very wrong killing your self over music doesnt mean 1 less idiot in the world. your full of shit. music makes them see the reality of their life, marilyn manson's music is very emotional and people prone to commit suicide or ppl that cant take life no more and are very depressed listen to this kind of music and releise the truth, they can relate to the music...its hard to explain but you really think that ANYONE would kill themselves for no reason at all??? if you couldnt take life no more wouldnt you kill yourself? say if eveything good in your life turned bad? u cant answer that cause u dont feel that way. you wouldnt have a fucking clue. | |

| Mechanical Animals. Mechanical- they are like machines. Programmed. Brainwashed. Brainless. All the same. No individuality. No one thinks for themselves. They just do what the majority does. | |

| There was one kid who shot himself in the head or stabbed himself (I forget exactly which one). After his dad found him he looked in his CD player and they're was Manson's AntiChrist Superstar CD in there. The dad was accusing Manson of leading people to commit suicide in his music. Like they were following him like "Mechanical Animals." Manson is just saying he's not Mechanical, I'm just a boy playing the suicide king. The suicide king is the king of hearts (I think) because that card looks like the sword is going through the head of the king. He's says he's playing the suicide king like he's playing the card and taking chances in his life, or maybe he's just suffering inside because of the pain he caused himself. | |

| Because I like finding alternative meanings to the popular vision ;) "I am never gonna be the one for you. I am never gonna save the world from you." He's not good enough for these people (the pop-music crowd? ;)), and he will never be big enough to prevent them from eventually destroying him (ie the band / genre) - the world is destined to be overrun by sheep-like robots (mechanical animals, har har!), and he's powerless to save the world from the flock. | |

| Besides the opinions offered here, don't forget about Omega and his story. When he realizes that the world he strived to belong to all along was full of "Mechanical Animals." | |

| Hmm...that's intriguing, though I'd always derived a portion of the meaning from the whole fake pop star irony glam rock (all of the previous), in that the pop cultule that he's found himself surrounded with is massively fake and distorts reality, as shown by the mannequinn imagery, etc. | |

| Another interesting fact about the kid who committed suicide and who had ACS in his CD player: His father went on a rally to de-rail Manson, so to speak and used to say "He is a hand grenade that goes off in teenagers head." Or something along those lines, which reflects in the song "And I was a hand grenade that never stopped exploding." As for the suicide king, in some card games the suicide kings is valued as the highest card, higher than any of the other 51 card, so maybe Manson is say he's just a boy, who holds all the power, playing the trump card. | |
