Woops, forgot... Jimi Hendrix was a nigger. Jesus Christ...too. These are actually great lines. They both *were* in terms of the literal sense and the "outcast" sense. The line about Jesus probably served to make a lot of Christians mad who actually view him as white. ;)

Patti Smith wrote this song, not Marilyn Manson. It's a cover. Marilyn Manson is singing about racism here and he is talking about how black people are considered outcasts in American society due to all of the fucking racists that exist and who really need to change their ignornat chicken shit views. PS: Scissorquis, SmMeTh, and all you others racist here are total fucking camel humping little dick buttmonkeys. Change your opinions already. Racism is completly stupid. I'm not sure as to what 1996 is getting at but i don't really like what they're saying either.

Nigger in this context definately means outcast, One of his best lines are in this song "Brian Warner, What A Nigger" hahaha, that always cracks me up.

If you think the word "Nigger" is a racial slur, the only racist here is you.

I saw a live version with Jonathan Davis. It was funny. They kept yelling "NIGGER!" and "FUCK YOU!" at each other.

In the original liner notes to Patti Smith's album Easter she says this song was written to show how social outcasts make the biggest difference to society or something like that. Manson does a good cover of this song and I think that's because it applies so much to him just like it applied to Patti when she wrote it.

You know, when I originally saw this song title on the track listing for "Smells Like Children", I became very surprised, in that the use of such slang is unlike Manson. After seeing the lyrics, though, I can respect the song a great deal. And one note: for those who don't know, "Brian Warner" is Manson's real name.

Actually this part is not correct: Jimi Hendrix was a nigger. Jesus Christ and grandma, too. Brian Warner (what a nigger!) should be: Jimi Hendrix was a nigger. Jesus Christ and GRANDPA, too. Brian Warner was a nigger! the reasoning is that his grandpa was a family outcast, its in his book, and he does mention him quet often in his other songs. As a description for Brian Warner in past tense, well Brian Warner is dead as far as MM is concerned. I think that 'what a nigger!' is a legitimate line, but I like former better.

4 or 5 people have already mentioned this, but this is a Patti Smith song. The first 9 lines here are Manson's own, Smith's started with a weird sex poem. The term 'nigger' here is used as a metaphor. SAme as with Irresponsible Hate Anthem.

well now that everyone's resolved the 'racial slur' thing. i'll just point out the fact that this song is really catchy.
