Song: Stop Me
Artist: Mark Ronson Ft. D Merriweather
Album: Version (2007)
CAPO 3rd FRET
Am E7
Stop me, oh, stop me
C
Stop me if you think that you've
D
Heard this one before
Am E7
Stop me, oh, stop me
C D
Stop me if you think that you've heard this one before
Am E7
Nothing's changed
C D
I still love you, oh, I still love you
Am E7 C D (Dsus4 D)
...Only slightly, only slightly less than I used to, my love
Dm -- C -- Dm -- G -- Em
Am E7
I was delayed, I was way-laid
C
An emergency stop
D Am
I smelt the last ten seconds of life
E7
I crashed down on the crossbar
C
And the pain was enough to make
D Am
A shy, bald, buddhist reflect
E7
And plan a mass murder
C D
Who said I'd lie to her?
Am E7
Who said I lied because I never? Never!
C D
Who said I lied because I never.
Dm -- C -- Dm -- G -- Em
Am E7
I was detained, I was restrained
C
And broke my knee
And broke my spleen
D Am
(And then he really laced into me yeah)
E7
Friday night in Out-patients
D
Who said I lied to her?
Am E7
Who said I lied? - because I never, I never
C D
Who said I lied to her?
Am
So I drank one
E7
It became four
C
And when I fell on the floor ...
D (Dsus4 D)
...I drank more
Dm -- C -- Dm -- G -- Em
Am E7
Stop me, oh, stop me
C
Stop me if you think that you've
D
Heard this one before
Am E7
Stop me, oh, stop me
C D
Stop me if you think that you've heard this one before
Am E7
Nothing's changed
C D
I still love you, oh, I still love you
Am E7 C D (Dsus4 D)
...Only slightly, only slightly less than I used to, my love
Am E7
Set free me why don't you
C D
Get out my life why don't you
Am E7
Cause you don't really love me, no
C D (Dsus4 D)
You just keep my hanging on
Am E7
Set me free why don't you babe
C D
Get out my life why don't you babe
Am E7
Cause you don't really love me, no, no, no
C D
You just keep my hanging on.
Am -- E7 -- C -- D (Repeat till fade)

| I forgot to add this part to my initial post, so here it is. The final verse of this song is actually an addition. It is not in the original version. Set me free, why don't you babe? Get out my life, why don't you babe? 'Cause you don't really love me, no You just keep me hanging on. This could be interpreted as the girl whois beaten saying this to the drunken boyfriend who beats her. Maybe tired of this cycle and feeling he doesn't truly love her, she wants out of this but lacks the strength to get out of it. She feels like she has to be in this? She keeps hanging on? | |

| I'm not a huge fan of Mark Ronson's work in general, but because of the way he mixed this music and the addition of vocals from Daniel Merriweather, it's by far the best thing he's done to date. Personally, I like the original version by The Smiths much more. Maybe that is because orginals are normally better anyways, not sure. This song is about love within a violent relationship. The girl is beaten by the guy beats everytime he gets drunk, resulting with her in the hospital. The hospital trips happen repeatedly (refer to the line "Friday night in Out-patients"), and the doctors are lied to about her injuries each time(refer to the line "Oh, who said I'd lied ? - because I never, I never"). Despite this all of this happening, she loves him "only slightly less" than she used to. Morrissey(from The Smiths) is a notorious feminist. This song was written to make a statement and movtivate individuals to report domestic violence and stand up for themselves. My favorite part of this song is: I crashed down on the crossbar And, the pain was enough to make A shy, bald, buddhist reflect, and plan a mass murder It's an interesting description of pain and very vivid. Do listen to the original version if you get the opportunity. It is well worth it. | |

| Set me free, why don't you babe? Get out my life, why don't you babe? 'Cause you don't really love me, no You just keep me hanging on This sound familiar? Check out Kim Wilde's song "You Keep Me Hanging On", it is word for word on that part of the lyrics. Whatever happened to her anyway? | |

| Hmm... that's cool. I had a feeling these lyrics were familiar. That's pretty much what Mark Ronson is, though. A really cool cover artist. | |

| "And the pain was enough to make A shy, bald, buddhist reflect And plan a mass murder " this is funny, really :) sad song tho think he is trying to find excuses for things he's done wrong. He can't break up with her. think it's going no where tho. if your relationship is this far, there's no going back. | |

| Ronson is an awful artsist with no originality. He's just murdered Coldplay, Kaiser Chiefs, Radiohead and The Smiths on his new album. He deserves to be shot for degrading the name of Morrissey. | |

| Sorry, but you're all morons if you didn't realize that Mark was a producer and DJ who never intended to make new music, but simply to revamp previously released records. He does a damn good job, too. This is a Smiths song titled "Stop Me If You've Heard This One Before" and the end takes part of the Supremes' "You Keep Me Hangin' On." No Kim Wilde here. Check out the video for the amazing "Oh My God" for a cameo from Daniel M. | |

| Well, with me being a bass player and just typically a girl who appreciates music for the beats and such, I kind of didn't pay attention to the words. All I thought was, 'Daniel Merriweathers voice sounds really nice.' But the bass sounds cool. | |

| Look up The Smiths, "Stop me if you think you've heard this one before", for more interpretations of Morrissey's lyrics. I am not normally a fan of covers, especially those of THE SMITHS, and although this version does nothing for me, it at least brings a completely different style and arrangement to the song, which is what a cover should do. The video is odd though. Any interpretations on that! | |

| I love the energy and charisma in the song. And the video's not that bad. Daniel Merriweather is a talented singer. Its his voice that really made the song. Anyway, the last part where he says "you just keep me hanging on" gave me the impression that he was just in the relationship because he felt like he had to be, but not because he had feelings for the girl. | |
