i think the first half of the song is about blood and the second half is about thunder. Is it just me?

Mastodon are a truly awesome band. Any bunch of guys brave enough to do a concept album (on what many consider to be the greatest American novel ever written) as their second album, and pull it off pretty much perfectly, demand some respect. Blood & Thunder is a summarising introduction to the story of Moby Dick. It focuses pretty much entirely on captain Ahab, describing his paranoia, his ever imminent descent into madness, and his desire for revenge. The entire theme of the book is fantastically contracted into four words: white whale, holy grail. Pure genius...

I HIGHLY reccomend reading Moby Dick if you are into this album's concept. It's funny reading all these people who are calling the book "stupid." You should probably read more than 10 pages into it. It's an absolute work of art. RAWWWWK

The part about "this ivory leg is what propels me" is about how moby dick took ahabs leg and is what drives him to get revenge by killing him.
