| How can anyone say that Mastodon's slower songs suck? Even though they're slower paced they still retain some heaviness. I've loved all of their slower stuff on the other albums too, Naked Burn, Ole Nessie. They all add to the effectiveness of the album as a whole too. They understand dynamics, and to me having the slower paced atmospherics on an album just enhance the heavier stuff. Seriously, how much more ass does Capillarian Crest kick as a pickup after Sleeping Giant? I think this album is phenomenal. It leads the listener on so many peaks and valleys. These guys get it. | |

| "Heavy" isn't synonymous with "good." There's more to music than just being heavy for the sake of being heavy. Personally, I find this to be one of the best songs on the album. The mood and atmosphere it creates is wonderful, and I love the breakdowns in it. | |

| While I can't analyze everything about this song, I think it's a part of the story where the adventurer is climbing Blood Mountain, and the mountain is a volcano. "Earth has Burst, Mountain Flames", and the rest of the song is his feelings going up the side of this dangerous mountain. The Mountain is a sleeping giant (inactive volcano), that is starting to stir. It can also be a metaphor for their jump to a major label. Anyways, that's what I see, but it is a great, great song. One of my all-time faves. | |

| I agree with the inactive volcano thing but i think its also describing the (werewolfs?) first night after aquiring the skull where it starts to control him and hes having nightmares. Also i think he regrets his decision to pursue the skull and his thinking to him self "SHAME ON ME FOR BEING SO GREEDY" | |

| Of course heavy isn't synonymous with good, but it's the thing that Mastodon did good. They can't play soft, sappy music. I listen to Mastodon because I want a heavy (and, of course, good) band. There are good bands out there that aren't heavy, I listen to some of 'em. Mastodon is not one of them. | |

| This is one of the best songs I've ever heard in my life. Absolutely brilliant. No idea what it means though, or what any song on this album means. | |

| Alright, I see you're point now, and I agree with some of it. Mastodon does do a good (actually, great's a much better word here) job with writing heavy music. That's what made Remission and Leviathan so good, along with Blood Mountain of course. However, may just be me, but I think Mastodon is a much better of a band now that they're writing songs like these as well. Not many bands can handle being heavy and melodic like these guys can. And, personally, I love the lighter songs on this album (Sleeping Giant and This Mortoil Soil) compared to the others, and I love all kinds of metal. I guess it's like comparing apples and oranges though. | |

| This song is emotional in my opinion atleast. But again I think this album got the most hard lyrics to read anything out of them. Also this is my favourite Mastodon song atm, thou I like them all really, really good. | |

| This is my favorite song next to Bladecatcher on this CD. I liked the old songs too, but they way they theme all thier CD's and tracks are really cool. I do agree with the Inactive Volcano "Theme" on this song. | |

| The Mountain is a sleeping giant (inactive volcano), that is starting to stir. good interpretation, I just figured that they arbitrarily named their songs after monsters | |

| The inactive volcano reference makes the most sense. Still, there's some lines that dont really make sense. For example the bit about a "father snake." Also, anyone catch that a few of the songs at the beginning of this album have some references to water? I think the protagonist had to sail out to Blood Mountain, so the mountain itself is on an uncharted island. Kinda cool since their last album had to deal with water, makes a nice transition. At least, that's why I think. | |

| This is a terrible song. Mastodon has become all sing-songy and Brent Hinds sounds like a cowboy or something. They haven't lost their touch yet (a lot of the other songs on this album are cool), but it's only a matter of time in my opinion. The days of Remission and Lifesblood, when Mastodon was a *heavy* band, are gone. | |

| there are few things that annoy me more than people who cant find nothing else to comment on here than how they wish a band catered to their one dimensional musical tastes,if you think he sounds too much like a cowboy and that one minor aspect is going to throw you off go listen to other music, hell better yet, make your own band and your own music, whats that? youre not musically talented enough to do either? no surprise there. seems even the stupid sperm can win sometimes. | |
